I have been here twice now. The service is warm and friendly, the shop is adorable. That's for the two stars.
To preface this, I used to make macarons daily as a pastry cook in Manhattan.
The macarons here are simply not good. I have had 14 different macarons from this place from the two visits. The first time 3 of the 4 macarons were crunchy with no softness whatsoever! The softer one had a filling with more moisture and I'm guessing that's why it was softer. It was during their soft opening so I was hoping it was a fluke.
The second time I bought ten macarons, each one a different flavor. All but three were crunchy and hard! If they were not hard they were somehow dry. I was so disappointed. The box was supposed to be shared between myself, two kids and my husband. We would take a small bite from each. I tried each one hoping for a properly textured macaron. We ended up tossing out half of them. I make macarons frequently so my kids are spoiled with them but didn't want these macarons.
The fillings (minus the coffee one) are veeerrry sweet and reminiscent of canned frosting, which I do like but not for an already sweet cookie. The flavors themselves were very good though and therefore the third star. I could taste the food coloring in some cookies but I have a strong taste for that, it always taste bitter to me.
I don't know where the good reviews come from, I don't know if they've never had a proper macaron and just don't know any better. The business this was bought from (Ooh La La Macarons) made very good macarons that were soft and chewy and I'm not sure when the ball dropped but these just aren't good. I hope it changes bc it would be a lovely addition to Waterloo, so long as they turn out proper, soft/chewy/slightly crispy macarons, not hard and crunchy cookies. They should be delicate little chewy clouds. Not hard or...
Read morePhenomenal! My boyfriend stopped in and got 24 in a bunch of different flavours, and not a single one has disappointed. I'm a bit of a connoisseur of macarons as they are one of my favourite desserts. I've had gourmet macarons from many different shoppes in a bunch of various places from the east to west coast, and these hold their own against the most well known and "best" shoppes I've sampled. These are also extremely well priced for the quality. On a scale of 1 to 5, these are a 10....
Read moreThree Words: Dubai Chocolate Bar!!! I went in to buy some macarons, which are amazing, and saw that she has begun making Dubai Chocolate Bars. I have wanted to try one since they became such a popular thing. They are worth the hype and the money. Amazing flavor and textures! And the chocolate was so thin with the perfect little snap. This place definitely deserves to be checked out. The Macs are amazing with a nice variety of flavors to choose from. She does...
