OMG! We were traveling on Iowa 20 and looked on here for a restaurant for lunch. Saw the ratings for this place and decided it was worth the drive into town. So glad we did. The place was spotless, awesome 70’s soul playing in the background, and one of the nicest people you could meet taking our order. Our food came out fast and was hot and delicious. Mentioned how good the homemade potato salad was and he brought me out a second. Has to be the best place to eat in Iowa. I would give ten stars if I could.

We were coming through Waterloo, Iowa from St. Louis and pulled this restaurant up based off of the Google reviews. Rodney did not disappoint! We got Catfish, dinner, which included fried okra, greens, cornbread, and french fries. The portion sizes were hefty. Also, since it was Sunday, he was offering free beer, and or daiquiri. Which also included a free meal for the children. You can’t go wrong with this experience. Keep it up my Brotha!👌🏽

Rodney's Kitchen is the best soul food I've had since my trip down south. The catfish is immaculate: crispy, flakey, perfect seasoning. The corn bread was delicious. The collar greens are amazing. Don't even get me started on the Mac and cheese. Simply delicious. The price was right and the the atmosphere is casual. So great we tipped twice, thank you Rodney!

Rodneys Kitchen is such a wonderful establishment it's hard to put into words. Not only is everything I've had so far on the menu some of the best food I've had. (Hawaiian Burger best burger in town) but also what I experience every time I vist is joyful and meaningful, Rodney's smile and friendly helpful attitude are so comforting. Rodney also spends what extra time and money he has helping the kids in our community, providing free lunches on days without school to prevent hunger. While also recently starting a program that gives local youths jobs mowing lawns in the Waterloo area. Helping keep teens from resorting to crime as a source of income. Truly the man deserves a medal, not only for food to die for, but outstanding...

The food is incredible. I had some greens that were so amazing! I’ve been there twice and both times was very satisfied. The first time I had the catfish. It came with 2 huge catfish filets beautifully breaded and seasoned. The second visit I had the wings and fries. I’ve always preferred my wings naked but these were lightly breaded and so good! My only gripe is the sauce containers. They are one ounce cups that have very small openings and are actually quite easy to tip over. I was only given one for my two generous filets and it was hard to dip it in the tiny container. Same story with the wings. I’d suggest the more traditional containers with a wide base and wide opening. Either way...

I desperately want to give this place 5 stars The menu changes daily/hourly, it seems, but the options are still yummy

Update: (4 months later) Yes! The food is tasty. Better than most local foods..

If you come at the 'wrong' time, (lunch time) most of the menu isn't offered. There is NO menu consistency...

Basically, what's there is what you get. -but mostly nothing too delightful until after lunch. There's even a seafood tease, which I've YET to see Even if you go when they tell you, the food you wanted, that they promised, might not be there.

VERY DISAPPOINTING

-I'm truly conflicted, bc the food IS worth it..

Owner- get your ish...
