Tequila Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Waterloo

We drove buy and decided to have some Mexican food. It's a bit pricey. There's no bean and cheese tacos on the menu (this is my forever salvation when there's little of vegetarian options), there's just "Taco", but they said they could make some. The employee on the register who takes orders does not know what is queso fresco or charro beans are🤦(and they don't have charro beans on the menu as well) We were having a take out order and they packed it in so much plastic, like not a single paper bag for at least chips. My tacos were flavorless, red salsa was flavorless. Salsa verde was better though. My husband said that his street tacos were good. Don't know, could not check because they are beefy one of course and I am vegetarian. Well, not going to other Tequila locations as well after this experience. UPDATE: I will type it here because I can't respond to the restaurant. They say they don't serve queso fresco, but they do - this is exactly what they put in my bean and cheese tacos and my husband's meal. Also, queso fresco and charro beans are one of the staples of the Mexican cuisine, so the employees should be more knowledgeable about this. Putting chips in plastic bags saying that they will stay fresh for more time makes me ask some more questions: How old are those chips? Who in the world is leaving chips for several days? Why don't you care about environment and my personal health rubbing those chips against...

Some issues with staff understanding what u r trying to order but if go with whatever they bring out when they mess up u will have great experience!!! Every mistake has turned out awesome. Food is back to being the same quality as it was when they first opened in Waterloo. We quit going to this location for a couple yrs due to food quality drop but that seems to be fixed and we will be returning regularly bcuz we LOVE the shrimp fajita quesadilla and Pollo Americano w/steak in stead of chicken. Also BEST sopapilla and fried ice cream EVER. And just a note for anyone that gives stock to the vegetarian babbling about no charro beans .... they are NOT a .Mexican staple. Charro beans are a COWBOY staple made generally with pinto beans. Why anyone would expect a Mexican restaurant above the Mason Dixon line to carry a COWBOY staple...

First time eating here. Going to be a one night stand kind of thing.

Average nothing special. The 3 stars is a combination of the food and the ordering process. I ordered a burrito without making changes so that was fine. The hard part is when I ordered a quesadilla and did not want the beans that came inside. I only wanted chicken and the cheese. Then I wanted a side of rice. It was repeated so I felt like the odds were good. Not so much. I should have known something was wrong because when I got there to pick it up they asked what kind of meat I wanted in the quesadilla....uh, chicken like we talked about on the phone. Got home and the quesadilla had chicken and rice inside. It’s odd that the quesadilla has beans inside, nobody does that, but even worse when it has rice inside.
