I dont know what happened to this restaurant, it used to be SO good...but those days are long gone. For years you could go here and confidently have a great meal. Now...pancakes are almost always burned, orders come out wrong, and they screw up "staples" like mixing up ingredients in pancakes and mashed potatoes. I wish I was kidding...who wants an overpowering flavor of lemon in mashed potatoes or an absurd amount of sour cream in pancakes?! The amount of times this has happened is insane.
And don't even get me started on their staff...most are extremely unfriendly and they could care less about your experience. The owner Daryl cares LESS than anyone. Tonight, my wife's dinner came completely wrong (a regular sandwich off their menu). It took more than 20 minutes for a new one to come out and Daryl was sitting at the bar less than 5 feet from us (knew what was happening), and didnt even bother to turn around or acknowledge the situation.
And the manager (I don't know his name) had the audacity to joke with someone in ear shot of us that the perks of working at a restaurant is that you get to eat the food that comes out wrong. Its no wonder they're not all 500 lbs given how often food is sent back (although I'm not sure why anyone would want to eat it!)
The whole place is sick. We were regulars for more than 15 years...but have had horrible meals/service for at least 6 times in a row (and that includes ordering takeout pancakes, getting home to find them completely black, and having to drive all the way back for a new batch).
What a joke of an establishment and it's clear others feel the same because it used to be almost impossible to get a table here... and now...it almost always appears empty.
We will not be back...trust me, there are way better restaurants in Watertown...save your...
Read moreI went here back in 2010 and haven't been back until recently. The experience was EXACTLY the same. At least they're consistent.
Wow, this one is hard to review. Perhaps I'll start by making a list:
Pro: *Good food - the food was delicious and the portions very large. Price - for the amount of food, the price was excellent. *Friendly service - despite the slowness due to the crowds, the service was very friendly. *"Neighborhood-y" feel - if you like the feel of a neighborhood place with lots of regulars, then this is a good place.
Con: *VERY crowded - If you aren't a regular, expect to wait. I noticed that regular customers who came in AFTER us got seated BEFORE us. Not a good way to win new customers. *Slow service - I am not used to having to wait for a cup of coffee or water. To be fair, most of the slowness was due to the place being packed rather than "bad service" but slow is still slow. *Cramped - even despite the crowds, the place is small and cramped. Some of the isles (and the path to the bathroom) is so narrow that I can see people who are even "slightly plump" not being able to get there without brushing the dishes on the tables of other diners.
Summery: If you are in a rush (long table wait) or if you want to linger over coffee (I don't mean to rush you but is this ready...), then this is definitely NOT the place for you to go and enjoy yourself. However, if you like a lively neighborhood spot with good food at good prices, then give it a try. It's worth going at least once for the experience. I can certainly see this being a fantastic place to go (perhaps sitting at the counter) for a summer afternoon snack or late lunch when it is...

Everyone is entitled to a bad day, I was having a not so great one myself. I am seated in a weird booth where another couple is facing me, like it is our own private VIP section. I also am not in the line of the cameras. I ignore the gut check. I am learning not to do that by what followed...
A different server comes over. I tell her I need a minute to order. I make my selection she comes back bringing me water. I also ask for an orange juice, a tuna melt on gluten free bread, and am told they have gluten free pancakes, though not on the menu, so I get an order of that with hash.
GF Pancakes: Real syrup too. Nice and fluffy. Verdict: EAT THIS.
Tuna Melt: Sad and flavorless. I needed the calories, so I still ate it. The coleslaw was nice though, and still crunchy that came with it. I had to spit out my pickle though. Verdict: SKIP
Corn beef hash: My first bite was lovely. The second was like a salt lick from hell. I didn't eat anymore and asked them to refund it. I almost swear my plate was swapped out because it got cold super quickly too. Did they mix old stuff with new and that is why it was super salty? Since I literally only had two bites they refunded this, which I appreciated. Verdict: MAKE SURE IT IS MAFE FRESH. Okay.
Orange Juice: WAS NOT ORANGE JUICE. I don't know what the hell it was but it had a similar color though milky looking. Sent this back as well for a refund. Verdict: SKIP.
Verdict: EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK. One dish out of 3 was good....
