I first visited Strawhat Pizza after hearing about it while listening to the radio. They were raising funds for victims of the recent shooting in Gilroy.
According to the man on the radio, they had been at it since early that morning--about twelve hours at my time of visiting.
When I arrived I was greeted in a friendly manner and ordered my favorite: a pepperoni pizza with jalapenos. I was happy to find that they had an affordable small size.
I sat down with a complimentary cup of ice water, and awaited my meal.
The atmosphere was relaxing, a family-friendly vibe that didn't feel contrived or patronizing. There were no animatronics nor funny mascots: There was just pizza. It was wonderful.
In what felt like no time at all, my name was called, and I received my pizza.
The pizza was contained within a stylish depicting two gentlemen happy and hard at work. One of them looked like a sentient triangle.
'Enjoy your delicious moments!' urged the vessel which housed the awaiting treasure. Believe me, I did.
The smell was intoxicating. The scent of tomato sauce wafted into my nostrils and I remembered all of the times during childhood where I was greeted with a similar experience.
From the very first bite I was hooked. With a thin crust that was crispy yet chewy, cheese that was melted to perfection, salty pepperoni whose delightful presence was found in every bite, and jalapenos which held a slightly acidic and signature spiciness--I enjoyed every minute spent in one of the many spacious booths in the establishment.
The experience I had at Strawhat Pizza was undoubtedly one of the coveted 'delicious moments' in my life, and I hope to experience it again...
Read moreI was expecting mediocre fast food from Straw Hat Pizza. What I got was far worse: egregious slow food
We each ordered a sandwich. Twenty minutes later we asked if they would be ready soon. The lady at the front told us they'd be right out. Fifteen more minutes, and they bring out our sandwiches
I'm not the kind of guy who gets a bad sandwich then logs onto the internet to leave a review. But this time is different: the sandwiches were clearly not fresh but microwaved. Really they were closer to hot pockets.
I could have gone to Safeway next door, bought hot pockets, went into the kitchen, tossed them in the microwave (no one would have noticed), and saved my party of four about 20 minutes...
Read moreStraw Hat Pizza on Freedom Blvd at Airport Blvd in Watsonville JUST SAVED MY LIFE!! We have a program helping teenagers in the evenings, and the regular program coordinator is on vacation. The person running the program tonight doesn't have a company credit card. I ordered 3 large pizzas and 3 two-liter bottles of sodas. Straw Hat is going to deliver them to the program. Joe at Straw Hat hopped onto this order right away, had it handled in seconds, and gave me the reassurance that our order will be delivered quickly. Other pizza restaurants in Watsonville weren't able to help us, so we REALLY appreciate STRAW HAT'S "We'll do it!" attitude. Yay, Straw Hat, FIVE STARS FOR...
