Happy Garden Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Watsonville

Customer service was very rude and not very helpful. Ordered pick-up through Google maps, who use a 3rd party service (door dash). Ordered 1x combination chow main 1x combination fried rice. Picking up was a hassle for no reason. Informed greeter I was there for a pick up and items ordered. Mind you this was the only order waiting to be picked up. Was denied my food for about 15 minutes because my name is not the display name on my Gmail account. Showed my notification from restaurant stating my order is ready and my invoice showing total and ordered items sent from Google in my email but still was not wanting to give me my order because I couldn't show her my order through the door dash app which is not even installed on my phone. Even went as far as showing her my transaction history of the amount taken out from the restaurant from my PayPal account and despite this was not given my order. Had to speak to a manager to finally receive this food that was not even as good as it is hyped up to be in the reviews I've read. Rice was not very flavorful and only contained 2 pieces of shrimp on it. Chow mein was a little better but also only contained 2 shrimp. Paid $15 for each but was given only enough to have 1 serving for 2 people. Will not be coming back ever and definitively would NOT recommend this...

Holy smokes! I have never seen a person be so rude in customer service.

My date and I walked in at 8:40pm. The lady at the counter first greets us with a "yes?" Like we are totally inconveniencing her by offering to spend our money in what was a completely empty and outdated restaurant. She then impersonally told us to sit wherever and blurted out that they close at 9:00pm though Google says 11:00pm. Strike two.

Then my date went to wash her hands and must have accidentally dropped a paper towel on her way back to the table. The rude lady then interrupted the waiter taking our order and slammed the paper towel on the table. She then stormed off. The embarrassed server seemed to shrink before my very eyes. He had been so embarrassed and I truly feel bad that he had to endure this. My date and I, confused, looked at each other before deciding to get up and leave. I won't spend my money at a place run by a person with such low social intelligence that they think this is OK.

Beyond that, what was she intending to happen? Was I supposed to just be cool with her being completely rude while I was choosing to spend my money at her restaurant?

I normally love this place but the other day I went and ordered my usuals including chicken chow mein and the chow mein tasted horrible. Tasted liked it was cooked in faucet water that has that gross taste.We all know what that tastes like. I figured maybe it was just an off batch. The following week a co-worker went to have lunch there and came back saying the chow mein tasted different. I immediately agreed and told her of my experience. She admitted that was exactly what it tasted like. Bad tap water. C,mon Happy Garden! You’re the best Chinese place in town. Please don’t start serving bad food. There’s a Panda Express, a Chinese place down town and several others that are less expensive but don’t have that quality tasting food that you’ve served here in Watsonville for years.
