Over the past year the quality of Buckatabon has fallen.
2023 --- The cocktails are tiny. A $48 NY strip steak should not be your top item - what supper club doesn't offer a NY strip steak? And, if this is your top item, don't run out of it on a Saturday night. The buffalo chicken sandwich? Omg.. sad. Not hand breaded. Not tasty. I've had a better sandwich at Popeyes, which IS hand breaded, juicy, and substantive - not a thin chewy disc that I could have bought in the freezer section of Woodman's. The buffalo sauce was also messed with. Who messes with buffalo sauce? This sandwich was all kinds of disappointing. If this chicken is the same one they use for the crispy chicken dinner, we are so glad we didn't order it as it, too, would have been disappointing. (Related note: the waitstaff warned us the crispy chicken dinner was not great)
Tom Collins drink was more of a 'shooter' than a drink of more than a few sips. Mostly ice, very small glass.
Up-charges for everything. It bugs me when a restaurant nickels and dimes you for every little thing. I didnt feel taken care of; I felt extorted. Big prices for small portions. This was definitely not a good WI supper club experience.
The plates were not pretty. No relish tray! C'mon!! That is a supper club standard. At no time did we feel like we were getting our money's worth, but instead felt like we were being extorted in a smoke n mirrors show--again, big promises, no delivery.
Limited dessert menu. 3 desserts? Come thirsty so you can drink your dessert, I guess, but the Grasshopper comes in at least 2 different sized glasses.
On the upside, wedge salad was tasty as was the French onion cheese dip. Imho, Buckatabon should capitalize on the cheese dip and put it on a chicken sandwich, fries, or a burger, bc it's that good.
Be warned - what Buckatabon lacks for in consistency and substance they make up for in kitch. Shanties are fun - albeit pricey - for the return.
Buckatabon needs to decide if they are a bar that serves food or a supper club. Unfortunately, all of this doesn't matter to us because we...
Read moreMy friends and I were greeted by Madelyn, a very stylish and attentive host and were seated on the beautiful patio overlooking the river. Shortly after, our Server Dani arrived and took our drink order. As our party included kids (and two childish adults), Dani was very patient as we struggled to decide if we wanted lemonade or water or maybe juice or coffee. She was simply wonderful and friendly. The mini muffins are a wonderful starter and were completely unexpected. Dani was equally patient as we pondered what we wanted to eat. The kids were ready, the adults were struggling. As I was buying for time, I asked if you can “Lumberjack it” to any breakfast. Dani explained the process and then told us that they get the question all the time. She said that it probably wouldn’t work at Target. I’m still going to try it.
We got hot (besides just our natural radiance) and Madelyn and Dani were more than happy to move us into the dining room. We were moved into a large booth with crushed velvet seats and 70’s style rolling seats. The interior is just gorgeous and classic. The kids had mixed reviews on the bird noises in the bathroom, one thought “Ring of Fire” sung by Johnny Cash was an appropriate song to play on repeat. The food, amazing! I am usually a breakfast champion but needed a box. Dessert drinks of Mimosas (I recommend the Resting Brunch Face mimosa… it isn’t just a cleaver name as the concoction is a perfect after brunch dessert).
Just at the end, I instinctively caught the falling item from the table. It happened to be a falling knife and I stuck my hand (merely a flesh wound but enough to draw blood). My friend suggested that I don’t catch a falling knife. Dani, after hearing what happened, offered the same advice. It is good advice. Moments later, Dani was back with a bandage and ointment. This is service that is above and beyond. I was content with the advice. Dani for the win! Gold star! Dani should proceed to “Go!” and collect $200.
I would come here again. Over and over....
Read moreI really don't like leaving negative reviews but sometimes it just is warranted. My wife and I have been trying to work a visit to the Buckatabon Tavern & Supper Club into our schedule and finally were able to do so this past Saturday. We made reservations for ourselves and another couple, our friends arrived a few minutes ahead of us and texted us that they were seated in the dining room. When we arrived we checked in with the hostess, my wife told her we had a reservation for four, that our friends had arrived before us and were seated in the dining room. The hostess stated that she hadn't seated anyone in the dining room and they must be at the bar. The bar is the first thing you see as you enter the restaurant and we could easily see they were not there. At this time another hostess walked up and they discussed if anyone had been seated in the dining room, the second hostess pointed past the bar towards the dining room and told us to walk back there and look for our friends. Low and behold our friends were in fact there and were drinking old fashioneds, I asked how they were and they stated that they were very weak so my wife and I decided to have soda's instead. When the server asked if our friends would like another drink they told our server that they were very weak and they would just have the water that was in the decanter on the table instead, the server didn't apologize for the drinks or offer them new ones. I had prime rib, my wife and our friends husband had the ribs while my wife's friend had Larry's seafood linguine. The food was flavorful but the linguine had small pieces of clam shells in it, the Prime Rib was cooked to the correct temperature but was a bit fattier and tougher than what I am used to or have had many times before. The water at the table ran out half way through the dinner and our waitress just wasn't very attentive. The ambiance is definitely Wisconsin supper club, warm and inviting but the food and service fell...
