First, the servers were AMAZINGLY friendly! I love it!
It's not a full service restaurant, but rather you order at the front, then take a number and they'll bring the food out to you. Kinda like Culver's. But the gal at the counter was definitely more friendly and helpful than the servers I talk to at Culver's. Super helpful as we were navigating through the menu, and explained anything that I was curious about.
The guys firing up the oven were mindful of my camera itchy fingers and moved stuff out of the way for me to get nicer shots of the oven, and I didn't have to ask!
The server who brought out the food for us, literally took 1 minute after we sat down to bring out the appetizer meatballs and wine.
So overall, I couldn't be happier with the service we received here.
food: The meatballs are the same price as the meatball sandwich, but the sandwich comes with 3 meatballs, and the appetizer comes with 4. The bread for the sandwich is made in-house per what the gal at the counter told me. I was happy with 4 meatballs as I'm on the keto diet. The meatball was quite delicious, and the tomato sauce was a tad on the salty side the way I was having it, but I think if you dunk some of their pizza crust or garlic knots in it, it would be perfect.
The fig and prosciutto pizza - good but skip if you're into savory and don't like sweet in your pizza. The combination of sweet and salty was just right in my mouth, but hubby thought it was too sweet for his tastebuds.
Overall, the place had a friendly vibe, food was good, and felt very open and airy. It's also quite family-friendly, and even has a little station for kids to make their own...
Read moreMy wife and I noticed this place while waiting for a table at a North Avenue Grill across the street. I read through most of the reviews and decided to give it a try. Just as some other reviewers have stated, this is not a full service restaurant. However, Maggio's serves great pizza in a clean, bright atmosphere. I've become a big fan and have had my birthday celebration here and more dates with my wife since pizza is her favorite food. One of the owners, Andy, is a talented manager, chef, and very passionate about the food he serves. He's been very pleasant to talk to about the food and new menu items. I absolutely love eating here. The crust has had a beautiful consistency every time. It’s bright, soft, and just the right amount of chewiness. The sauce is well balanced and rich. The meatballs are a show stopper: spicy, great texture, and a marinara full of balanced herbs. I’ve enjoyed the spicy Italian, Pepperoni, and my favorite fig and prosciutto. My wife loves the margherita and...
Read moreI recently tried the jerk chicken pizza at this spot but with a garlic sauce base, and I have to say it was absolutely incredible. The wood fired crust was light, airy, and had that distinct smoky flavor that only a real wood fired oven can produce. The toppings were perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of spice from the jerk seasoning and a rich depth from the garlic sauce.
Honestly, it was so good that after finishing my first pizza, I turned right around and ordered another one, this time one of my personal go to classics. Being from Houston, where we have plenty of great wood fired pizza places and I have pretty high standards for my pies.
In some ways, this place is even better than Grimaldi’s, especially when you consider the price point. If you are in the Milwaukee area, it is definitely worth the drive to check it out. If you love authentic wood fired pizza, this place needs to be...
