After looking at some of the reviews and deciding to order from this establishment, I come to the realization that a lot of these reviews are either fake or the people are in denial. My fiancé and I ordered the chimichangas that comes with rice and black beans and I have to say that this is the worst Mexican food that we have ever had and just after two bites we realized that this establishment just serves people anything and I honestly don’t even think it was fresh. The chimichangas were extremely doughy and the rice was hard and crunchy. We spoke to the owner and she was on the defensive about her food. There should not have been any defensiveness because a true business owner especially in the restaurant business will check the quality of the food that’s being sent out. Also, we had ordered two sodas and left only to realize that the sodas were not in the bag and the owner’s son just let us walk out without saying anything especially since he knew the sodas were not in there because when we came back to the store to get the sodas he informed us that there was no longer any more pineapple Jarrito’s. He couldn’t even tell us to get another soda before leaving the store. Look at the picture of the food. Does that look like something a customer would want to eat? I’m sorry but this is not good Mexican food and if anything you need to pack it up and leave Wayne, New Jersey and reassess the food that you’re serving because it’s not right.
Reply: We understand that you apologized and refunded the order but we left a review because you allowed this food to be served to us knowing that the rice wasn’t fresh and the food quality wasn’t good. We had to leave a review to let others know the type of food that is being served to customers. An apology and refund doesn’t make our bad...
Read moreGuacamole is a gastronomic gem in the typical pizza-or-chinese-on-every-corner Jersey suburb of Wayne. Nestled unassumingly in a strip mall, this authentic Mexican restaurant is exactly what you're looking for.
I've visited Guacamole several times for lunch, and I have never EVER been disappointed. How do you know this is authentic? You'll know when you walk in. This isn't some big coporate chain restaurant.
You're greeted by the proprietress who always says "Hola!" with a big smile that makes you feel all warm and welcome. She'll direct you to the seating area and WOW - the colorfully painted murals and tables make you feel like you're at a fiesta, celebrating a holiday in the Mexican countryside. If I could give atmosphere a 6-star rating, I would.
The staff is really nice and attentive. After you seat yourself, you’re given a bowl of tortilla chips and about 10 minutes after ordering you'll receive your platter of food and a trio of different homemade sauces: garlic, medium and hot (beware of the hot one!).
I've ordered the following highly reccommedable dishes (as seen in my pics): quesadillas burrito chimichanga - like a big, deep fried burrito tacos tostones
For a protein, I usually pick tinga, chicken in a chipotle sauce - yum! Also, I always have to drink either a homemade Jamaica (ha-MAI-ca) a sweet sangria-colored hibiscus drink or a Jarritos soda.
As you can see from the pictures, these aren't small portions. You could easily eat half and save the rest for later.
Looking for some real good, authentic Mexican food? Drop by Guacamole in Wayne. Try the tinga, Jamaica and remember, easy on the...
Read moreWhat a find! This is a small, basic, seriously authentic Mexican restaurant. Its owner is a third generation Mexican chef using his family's handed down recipes. Everything, literally everything, is made from scratch. The food we had was amazing. We weren't too hungry so we got a lighter meal. You can't go to a restaurant called Guacamole without having guacamole. Yes, it was every bit as good as you might imagine. Creamy, gently but perfectly flavoured. And the tortilla chips, clearly made on the premises, were probably the nicest chips I have had. Main course of Flautas, a cigerello shaped crispy tortilla wrapped around chicken, bathed in salad. The restaurant served two home made relishes. One was medium spicy and packed with flavour. The other was very hot for those who like that sort of thing. We finished with caramel filled Churros. This must have been my favourite Churros of all time. Even the sugar/cinnamon dusting was clearly home made from original product. The flavour exploded in my mouth as the hot, gooey caramel oozed from its centre. The restaurant itself may be basic, but the food is outstandingly delicious. And the service is about as friendly as you will get anywhere. I expect young kids would enjoy this every bit as much as...
