Let's talk about Where the home folks eat. This is it. This is a basic all American diner which I have enjoyed some the mid 1960's as a boy traveling to Florida before the interstate system was a through way. We traveled highways with Roadside local locations to patronize. Applebee's this is not. Wholesome American foods cooked and served to neighbors by neighbors. Simple local dishes for those uncomplicated by life's struggles. Here you will be rubbing Elbows with the Farmer in Bibs, The former star Quarterbacks and Generations of them. Come have something pleasant and rememberable if your are passing thru the area. They once served an amazing Breakfast. Back then one waitress must have been the model for the kiss my grits Flo from the TV show. She could smoke a whole cigarette, never leaving her lips, take orders and deliver food, all with out losing her Ash. How she did that IDK. So what the restrooms are outdated and small, you didn't come for them. The Counter still has stools and the booth bases have always been here. The upholstery is updated often. It has to be. Lots of butts are in them daily. Peak times you might be waiting 15-20 mins. That's because it's busy. Wanna know why, Cuz the Home Folks are Eating too. Wait your turn. I do, often.
Now for tonight's visit I will be double posting. The second will be directed to the friendly local couple that bought my meal with out me knowing it. Thank you, you very generous Folks. You are pictured in front of me in these pics. I believe in pay it forward, which I have also done in the past two weeks. THANK YOU. OH My meal, yes good stuff fried chicken slaw fries and fried apple with a sweet tea no ice. Editing my...
Read moreOh my goodness! I am beyond happy I accepted my mom and dad's recommendation! I live in Raleigh, NC and I went to a woman's retreat with my BFF at Lake Junaluska.
I asked my dad for a recommendation and he and my mom both said Clyde's Restaurant. My parents live in Raleigh as well and they went to Clyde's several years ago.
So my BFF and I tried it and we're completely amazed at the food, the service, the staff and the price.
We went on a Saturday about 1:00 pm. It was packed with a wait. We waited about 10 minutes and got seated. There were several things we wanted to try but we each decided on the daily special. I got the fried chicken, Mac and cheese (homemade by the way), the fried okra and the fried squash, with a 1/2 & 1/2 of rolls and cornbread. My BFF got the stuffed porches with the same sides as me. We each got a glass of tea.
Even though the restaurant was packed and the 6 parking spaces for pick up orders were completely full, we received our food in a more than acceptable time period. The second she placed our meals in front of us we were both astounded. After we each tried a bite of everything we were born away.
Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. Or glad was never empty. We both ate until we were satisfied and ended up with to go boxes with more food than we actually ate at the restaurant. We were so completely satisfied and very stoked we each had a to go box for another meal.
Then the bill came... We had to do a double take. Our bill for 2 meals with enough leftovers for 2 meals and 2 drinks was only $23.50.
The pictures are of our meals, my to go box and the bill. I...
Read moreI personally think this place is a little over rated. But apparently my opinion doesn't hold much weight because the people of Haywood County think it's the next best thing to sliced bread. This place stays packed. I think some dishes are slightly better than mediocre or just mediocre, which leads me to say the food is over priced. I don't know why, but the food always makes me think of cafeteria type food. Or food that would be served in a nursing home. Again that's my honest opinion. The staff is wonderful though. The interior is severely outdated, which makes me wonder how clean is the cooking area in the back of the house🤔? And probably keeping the interior the same as it was back in the 1900s is most likely another reason, the locals keep going there for umpteen generations. I say rating scale 1-10, ten being the best I would give it a 6.5/10. Oh one more thing... They have curb service (never used it though). I'll give an extra .5 to make it a 7/10 for that 😉. Update: I went to make a to-go for my dad and tried to order the special. But they were completely sold out on most of the sides. So I pick something off the menu, but again.. didn't have what I picked off their menu available either. Eventually I found something to order, and waited about 15 minutes for the food. While I was waiting with my son, a waitress was getting herself ready for closing, and offered us a drink while we waited. She was very friendly and her conversation with us made the 15...
