Hostess âLauraâ lied to us and told us, âsorry, there are no seats by the windowsâ, even though there were clearly seats by the window. She then smirked and walked away. Her face, eyes, and body language told it all: She just wanted to screw us.
We then asked our server (who was very professional, and quite excellent, in stark contrast) if we could move to a clearly open table by the windows, which was Not Reserved, and Clean. We were allowed to move to that table immediately, the server and the head host allowed it with no problem.
Hostess âLauraâ was Terrible, Rude, and I believe that it was some sort of strange Power Control Attempt.
When you come here, youâre Paying for the view, Not the food.
The food is Mediocre at best, (lacking flavor, overly salted, and very basic). They give you ALOT of it / Huge Portions, likely in an attempt to compensate for the lack of quality.
At least the view truly is epic. (But again, Host âLauraâ tried to screw us out of this, the only reason to even come to this place)
Also, the worst part is that they sneakily attempt to get you to TIP TWICE The bill comes as a complicated breakdown, even if you order the fixed price Course menu. (This encourages your mind to not check the bill and just sign) They automatically include 18% gratuity on the first bill, and they only circle the final total with the tip included. They then give you another blank bill to sign, which includes only the final total and a âtip lineâ to write the tip AGAIN
But here the trick is completed; -They only show you the TOTAL INCLUDING THE PREVIOUS 18% GRATUITY -and they imply you should Tip AGAIN based on the total (which is even higher because it is the elevated total that already included the 18% gratuity from before)
EXAMPLE: Our bill was roughly 360$ for 4 people. Our bill was roughly 420$ with tip for 4 people (automatically included) The blank (no breakdown) signature bill had another tip line and only showed âfinal totalâ of 420$, and asked us to TIP AGAIN.
IF We Fell for This (Which we didnt), the final SECOND DOUBLE TIP TOTAL would have been about 500$, for a 360$ original bill.
SCAM
This is NOT a place for foodies, and is NOT a place that values Transparency or Honesty, not on the Hostess Level, and Not on a Financial Level. This IS a place for people whose main intention is to impress others with the view. (ALOT of middle aged people on solo dates, either that or Elderly diners â- nothing wrong with that at all, everybody needs to eat and everybody rightfully would like to spend their money on a nice memory of a nice night out with the people they care about â- and once again, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that â- no hate against the clientele here at all.) The reason I mention this: Either way, these both are ideal populations who are most likely to NOT do the math or check the bill carefully. Likely more then 50% of the diners here fall for their scam.
Thatâs an expensive price to pay for a view, which you can get for free by sitting at the benches outside, and easily obtainable at Any Other Establishment on the water in the area.
Would NOT Recommend. Will NOT Return.
*Edit: -our table had No Guest Name, which is strange and NOT standard procedure, (maybe an attempt to hide the mistreatment?) -we were offered compensation for the mistreatment in the form of future accommodations (IF we...

My family and I have made it a tradition to celebrate our birthdays at this restaurant, and every time we visit, we are blown away by the food, the ambiance, and the service.
To start with, the Chart House boasts an incredible view of the New York City skyline. The restaurant is situated on the Hudson River, and the view of the cityscape from the dining room is breathtaking. The floor-to-ceiling windows allow for an unobstructed view, and we always make sure to request a table with a view when we make our reservation.
In terms of the food, the Chart House does not disappoint. The menu is diverse and offers a range of seafood, steak, and vegetarian options. One of our favorite dishes is the stuffed shrimp, which is always cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The lobster bisque is also a must-try, as it is rich and creamy with chunks of succulent lobster meat.
On top of the exceptional food, the service at the Chart House is always top-notch. The waitstaff are attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. Our glasses are never empty, and our food is always delivered promptly and with care. Additionally, the restaurant offers complimentary valet parking, which is a nice touch and makes the experience even more seamless.
To make our birthday celebration even more special, the Chart House offers a complimentary dessert for the birthday person. The dessert options are decadent and delicious, ranging from cheesecake to chocolate lava cake. It's a small gesture, but it goes a long way in making the occasion feel even more special.
What we appreciate most about the Chart House is the attention to detail in every aspect of the dining experience. From the ambiance to the food to the service, everything is executed with care and precision. It's clear that the restaurant takes great pride in providing a memorable dining experience for its guests.
Another aspect that sets the Chart House apart is the ability to make reservations online. This feature is incredibly convenient, especially during peak times when the restaurant can get quite busy. We've never had an issue with our reservation, and the online system makes it easy to modify or cancel if necessary.
In terms of pricing, the Chart House is on the higher end, but it is well worth the splurge for a special occasion. The quality of the food and the overall experience is unmatched, and it's clear that the restaurant puts in the effort to deliver a memorable dining experience.
Overall, we highly recommend celebrating your special occasion at the Chart House in Weehawken, NJ.    Read moreDear Chart House Owner/Management,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to bring to your attention the disappointing experience we had during my girlfriend's birthday dinner at your restaurant recently. My girlfriend has been celebrating her birthday at Chart House since she turned 49, and she just turned 62 this year. However, this year's celebration, which included over 10 guests, was less than satisfactory.
Firstly, there was only one waiter attending to our table, which was quite surprising given the size of our party. Ideally, there should have been at least one waiter handling drinks and appetizers and another for the main meal. Although the restaurant wasn't crowded, I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt that you may have been understaffed. It wasn't until I voiced my concerns about the service that another waiter was assigned to take our drink orders. The initial waiter informed me that he was only responsible for taking appetizer orders, which was quite baffling, especially since he hadn't taken my appetizer order yet. Moreover, when he finally returned, he addressed us as "ok guys," which was rather mortifying considering we were all middle-aged and senior women. Proper training on how to address diners respectfully is definitely needed.
Secondly, I ordered a half dozen oysters, being an aficionado on oysters myself. To my surprise, the waiter brought me a dozen, which I didn't mind paying for, but the oysters tasted off. They had a sour, fishy taste, as if they had just been taken out of the freezer, rather than the fresh, briny ocean-like taste one would expect. This was particularly disappointing given the price of $24 for half a dozen, especially from a restaurant renowned for its surf and turf.
Additionally, I was surprised to find that there wasn't a choice of wild-caught fish on the menu. While I understand the importance of sustainability, not everything needs to be sustainable, and if it is, the price should reflect that rather than being at wild-caught prices.
Lastly, considering my girlfriend has been hosting her birthday dinner at Chart House for over a decade, it would have been a nice touch for the manager to come over and check if everything was to her satisfaction. In my experience, managers at other restaurants where I am a regular always make it a point to greet us and ensure everything is in order.
It is disheartening to say that Chart House seems to be relying solely on its ambiance and view, while the food and service leave much to be desired. I hope you take this feedback constructively and make the necessary improvements to uphold the reputation of your restaurant.
Thank you for your attention to...
