Before I get into the very unpleasant situation that my family and I, unfortunately, had to experience in the middle of our stay, I want to clarify that the hotel I a nice, pleasant place with good room standards.
However, I cannot share the same positive experience with customer service. We booked four people room. However, as we wanted to have some privacy, we rearranged some pieces of furniture. When we came back to our hotel after our second day in NYC, all of our four cards didn’t work. One of us went to the receptionist, and she told us that, apparently, we rearranged some things in our room, and that’s forbidden, and if we don’t change it back within 24 hours, we will be charged a $1000 fee. So they decided to deactivate our cards without any communication whatsoever (we checked our email and spam folder, as well as any missed calls). We apologized. However, the receptionist kept pushing that we did something “illegal” and said they would check on us tomorrow and charge us if we didn’t obey what she just said. We asked where it said on the website or anything that we could not rearrange the room. She noted that it was NOT written anywhere, but we should “just know” that it’s the standard in prestigious hotels. Excuse me, is it standard in prestigious hotels to treat customers like that, deactivating the cards without any communication after the second night in the hotel and threatening to charge an additional $1000? Finally, she re-activated the cards, and we entered the room. At this point, I would like to clarify that this is a four-star hotel where the price for one night is $380. The room wasn’t clean. We weren’t provided any new towels or bottles of water, or coffee capsules (it’s a part of the service we pay the price for). Additionally, the leading light in the room didn’t work. After rearranging everything within 2 minutes (I just included this to emphasize how insignificant those rearrangements were), I went downstairs to talk to the same receptionist. I said that this is not how your treat a customer in fours star hotel (or, for this matter, any hotel). I was expecting something like: “sorry.” Obviously, I didn’t get it, but she was “kind enough” to offer the cleaning service. I said we were exhausted after our day, and I would like the towels, please.
Some people were arguing loudly during the night next to our apartment. We wonder if maybe someone hasn’t assumed that it was us, and maybe because of the argument, we rearranged some things, so they decided to mistreat us.
This situation is UNACCEPTABLE, and I took my time this evening to share this with you to prevent you from such unpleasant treatment in a so-called “prestigious” hotel during your stay...
Read moreAt check-in, it took the front desk employee over 20 minutes for their computer to be able to check us in and take our credit card, the manager had us move to a different computer which finally worked. The same employee told us we were in room 335 but as we were walking to the elevator, I noticed it had 1027 crossed out and 332 written above with a checkout date of 8/18 crossed out and 8/19 written above (reused a previous room key holder?!?) I walked back and she clarified our room #, we continued down a long hallway to the adjacent building and tried to use the elevator, the panel was very loose, it could be moved with your hand and it wouldn't work. I walked all the way back to the front desk and asked for the manager this time. She paged maintenance who was waiting to tighten up the elevator panel. However we were never told that the room key needed to be used to make the elevator work. I need 2 knee replacements and was very frustrated at having to stand at the desk for over 20 min and then walk back and forth so many times after a long trip, just to finally get into our room almost an hour after walking up to the front desk! The manager did not offer anything but a sorry as she sent us up the other elevator. The room was nice, pretty clean except for on top of the tv's and behind the curtains along the window sill, both had not been dusted in a long time. On the last day our coffee packs we're not refilled from the day before, I had to call 2x to get some brought up (took 1 hour)! Great location with the ferry within a close walk. For late night food and drinks there is a chain restaurant within walking distance open later than the hotel restaurant and bar. If you have any issues walking long distances, you should ask to be put in the main building. The staff that we encountered to purchase ferry tickets and the bartender were both very helpful with suggestions for traveling...
Read moreWhile visiting a customer in New Jersey, I elected to stay at this hotel based on other reviews of it, and was not disappointed.
The hotel is located near the Lincoln Tunnel, which I mention as if you need to travel during rush hour you can end up spending quite a bit of time in traffic. I made sure to allow for sufficient travel time heading further up New Jersey, as very quickly traffic crawled to a stop during the morning and afternoon.
Check-in was quick with the friendly staff, and I chose a room in the west tower where the Club Lounge is located. I had a great view of the Manhattan skyline, which I’ll honestly admit I spent a fair amount of time standing at my window, staring at it.
The rooms are essentially mini-suites, with a separate living and sleeping area - they’re not separated by doors, but rather a wall blocks half the room. I think it’s a great feature, as is would give you an entertaining area, and also helps with a work/sleep separation which I find to be key when travelling.
I found the room very comfortable, although the bed in my room seemed to have partially collapsed on one side. Very little noise from surrounding rooms, although you can never tell if it’s good noise protection, or if they’re just empty.
The Club Lounge had great food choices for breakfast and in the evening, and the little touches of snacks are a welcome change from other hotels.
The gym is a standard Sheraton size, meaning there are a few machines and weights to use, which look out onto the indoor pool. The one thing I would have enjoyed would have been a remote from the TV, so I could change it to something I’d like to watch when I was alone in the gym.
There is also a bus stop quite new the hotel, with the ferry to Manhattan right outside the door and light rail a 10-minute walk away - lots of choices for transportation!
I’d happily return to this hotel again when I’m...
