TERRIBLE NEW OWNERS - RACIST

As a Wellesley native, I grew up on Truly's. It was a staple in my childhood – warm, welcoming, and always buzzing with neighborhood charm. Gary, the previous owner, brought a kind of magic to the place that made it feel like home. So when I recently visited from NYC and took my mom out for a nostalgic trip to Truly's, I was genuinely excited. Sadly, the experience was nothing short of upsetting.

We ordered a kiddie twist and a raspberry mini, and while they accidentally gave us the wrong size for the raspberry, I didn’t mind – honest mistakes happen. But what really rubbed me the wrong way was the treatment my mom received from the new owner, a member of the Marcus family (pictured below - the man in the hat - found online), who rang us up.

After my mom paid and we turned to walk away, he pointedly motioned at the tip screen – as if to shame her for not tipping. Let’s be clear: this is a counter-service ice cream shop, not a sit-down restaurant. Tipping isn’t required, especially when the service is curt and impersonal. His reaction? He made a rude face, muttered something to the cashier next to him, and scoffed – loud enough for us to hear.

I’ve worked in customer service. I understand the grind. But this was flat-out disrespectful – especially towards a loyal local returning to a once-beloved neighborhood spot. As a person of color in a predominantly white town, I couldn’t help but wonder if the treatment we received was about more than just tips.

It’s devastating to see how far Truly's has fallen from its community-centered roots. What was once a friendly, joyful place now feels cold, transactional, and frankly, unwelcoming. This is not the Truly's I...

Went to Truly's for the first time today. You see, we're from Wellesley and have recently returned as my husband is a Stage IV cancer patient at MGH. We've just spent two days in oncology and radiation. And because our kids and grandkids are here and we thought Truly's would be a good, fun memory to make with the grands. They got there before us, ordered and headed out the door while we were still ordering. The Truly's employee that had been helping her kept looking at her as if she was skipping out on the bill. I got her attention to tell her we had it, we would be paying for their ice cream. She scolded me with "We can talk nicely, too."...I was quite taken back by her response, when I was expecting something more along the lines of 'OH, ok. Thanks!"...when I got to the register I took the high road and said, 'I'm not sure what I said wrong, but I am sorry,"...she never looked up, never said thank you, just shook her head and said "I don't have time"... well guess what... you do now. Because we won't be coming back. The ice cream is ok - but no so ok that a 70 year old person paying the bill needs to be verbally admonished for absolutely no reason. I recommend this person find a job where she isn't dealing with the...

Of all the ice cream places I have been, this is my fav!!! Why? Because they use Richardsons, my favorite ice cream, AND they have at least half a dozen quality Froyos!!!! So many places are phasing out Froyo, and I love getting a cone at the end of a day, but I’d rather it be 200-300 calories than 1200 calories!!! Love the Froyo!

Also, a kiddie is two scoops, and less than $5, which is affordable.

Also, the flavors are super creative, like the phantom berry (which is black raspberry with fudge and brownie pieces), or the Reese’s (which is a peanut butter based ice cream with, I believe, chunks of Reese’s cups).

Fully accessible. Minimal seating inside.

Parking is metered all...

Hands down, the best ice cream cake we’ve had! Every bite was perfection - rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. The layers were beautifully balanced, with the perfect ratio of ice cream, ice cream and more ice cream including that irresistible fudge and cookie crunch. You can tell everything is made with high-quality ingredients and a whole lot of love! The girls were obsessed and already asking when we can get another one. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just treating yourself, this place is the go-to spot in Wellesley for the most delicious ice cream treats. Absolutely five stars!
