My favorite restaurant on the Cape. The Bookstore Restaurant in Wellfleet, Cape Cod Massachusetts. The views of the dramatic dunes, waves, classic, mussels, and the rest of what the Atlantic Ocean provides. My mum, Aunt P, and myself. My last night here in Paradise. Til next time Cape Cod. Love you Big thank you to Brewster Fire Company that responded to my mom's bf, Tim. He is still hospitalized with sepsis from e-coli bacteria. #capecod #summer #family #sunshinesideoflife

Update: all my previous comments still stand. This time dining from the lower deck, I can say there are glimpses of the water between cars parked across the street. Nice shade on the lower deck. Vegetarian was very happy with the rice and broiled cauliflower dish, so rich in many artfully prepped vegetables. Chicken tenders were plentiful and not greasy. Po' boy oysters again not greasy with toasted roll with greens and sauce. Broiled cod was gobbled up. Friendly attentive staff. Vast views of the harbor from the outside decks. Bring your shades and a brimmed hat if dining outside around sunset. Bring a sweater as the breeze can take on a chill once the sun goes down. Cozy rustic feel inside. Get the famed Welfleet Oysters. Try a cocktail. Food perfectly cooked. Order carefully as some dishes are so deliciously rich so you might not fit dessert. Sharp staff with respect to allergies. Server checked with chef to be sure no allergens were part of the chowder stock.

Our favorite restaurant on the Cape and no vacation is complete without a lunch or dinner stop. We were a party of 3 women. We all had appetizers of shrimp cocktail ( fresh, light, and so šŸ˜‹ sweet), oysters Rockefeller, and Bookstore Mussels. Everyone had speciality šŸø ( I was DD so only Diet Pepsi for me ) Then, we had Fried Shrimp platter, ( I had a beautiful, fresh House Salad instead of fries ( it was perfect) . Other entrĆ©es were Swordfish with a šŸ… remolade, and Baked Scallops that were enormous. Finally, we ended the night with a lemonciello cake with fresh 🫐. Perfect as always. Ps- Our waitress has been our server not once but three times before. We absolutely love it šŸ˜€ I cannot rave about this place enough. The views and we were incredibly blessed with a spectacular sunset as well. Cannot get much better! Do yourself a flavor and enjoy the fresh seafood, incredible service, and spectacular views on the water in Wellfleet.

I'm a long time customer at the Bookstore Restaurant but I've been losing my faith in them the last few years. I won't complain about prices, even though they're high, because seafood is expensive and Cape Cod is also a vacation destination; it's resort prices even though Welfleet isn't a resort. The service is always great and every server I've had has been generous and charming.

My complaint is with the quality of the food. Which is stumbled safely into the grand and all-consuming basket of mediocre. Clam chowder is still good. I think of all the dishes it's the one that's stayed the most consistent over the last decade and a half or so.

That said, the lobster roll has tanked. They changed the bread they used for it and now it's miserable. The flavor balance is wrong and it just doesn't come together.

Most of the fish dishes are dazzlingly average, from swordfish to shrimp cocktails the flavors aren't there, often times you'll get some hint of lemon and that's it. I don't think you need some complex glaze or what not but all of the fish at the Bookstore Restaurant lack that extra punch, they just don't feel creamy and good to bite into and they don't do much for my buds.

It's very fresh and very solid but not craveable. Not at all.

I can't speak for products like their burger and their pizzas because it's a seafood place and I've never gotten those items but from the reports of my friends and family I hear they are mediocre too but I don't know.

This place isn't bad. It just lacks the extra something to make it stand out in a field of places full of...

I travel for work and happened to be in the outer cape for 2 weeks in March. Came be on a Thursday night. There were only 3 parties. Got yelled at for attempting to go to the door on the side despite no signage. The guy saidā€ that’s the summer door and rolled his eyes at me. ā€œ

We sat at the bar and ordered 1 lobster roll, 1 Heineken and the the seafood medley. The seafood medley had no flavor at all so I asked for tartar sauce. The bartender, a man with a ponytail in his 50s look at me like I asked for drugs. Gave the local woman he was chatting up a look of disgust. Dude, maybe you should ask if the dish was good!

I got the sense that because we weren’t locals, we were treated that way. They made us feel like we did not belong there. Weird looks and just plain unfriendly. The whole meal came up to $76 for the lobster roll, 1 beer and the seafood medley not including tip. What a total waste of $$$. On the way out, the door guy gave us dirty looks again.

I’ve been to Macs in Ptown, Rock Harbor Grill, Sir Crickets, PB Boulangerie, Black Cat Tavern, Wimpy’s, Naked Oyster throughout the Cape which have all been good experiences considering the limited choices in the winter.

For the price point, there are way better options in the outer cape where you’ll be treated with respect and your patronage is appreciated. Worse experience I’ve had in the Cape.

They should’ve paid me to be there that night. An hr of my life I’ll never get back 🤮 I would’ve been happier with a meatball sub from SUBWAY. If I could make this review a...

Stopped in on Tuesday evening and sat at the bar for a cocktail and appetizers. We ordered the pomegranate martini along with calamari and roasted beet salad. The bartender made out cocktails and we took a sip and was absolutely disgusted, they were overly sweet. We sat with untouched drinks in front of us for 20 minutes before the bartender asked how we were doing. We said the cocktails were not good and he replied ā€œyeah they are super sweet not my favorite eitherā€ and walked away. Never attempted to rectify the situation with perhaps a new cocktail. We ate our food. Calamari was great. The roasted beet salad was not roasted but sliced what appeared to be canned but non the less not terrible. When we were finished I had to flag the bartender down for the check. He handed the check over and I saw he did not take off the cocktails that mind you still sit untouched in front of us. I said excuse me sir, we were charged for these cocktails that we did not drink, you did nothing to resolve the problem and never offered to make your customers happy. He began to argue with me, I said sir kindly take these off the check he did reluctantly removed them with great attitude and no apology. I have been in the restaurant business for 30 years, I would never allow my staff to handle a situation like this. You want a happy customer, and a happy customer spends more time and money at your establishment. So I will never return here, I will surely not recommend it. Poor customer service is a sad thing...
