Tracy, I hope you read this review. We have been going to Winslow’s a few times each summer since it opened perhaps 20 years ago. Recently our experiences have been poor and no worse than our most recent visit. We were seated and for 25 minutes wait staff walked by and no one even acknowledged our presence. No water, nothing. Finally I got up and went to the hostess and 10 minutes later a waitress finally appeared and muttered something about a communication error. Oh well. We ordered. The mussels appetizer which is usually excellent came and weirdly was under cooked. They were all open but gelatinous. The curried sauce was strangely sweet. Not the usual umami delight. When the main plates came out 5 out of 6 of us were served. The waitress disappeared and then went on to serve other tables. Passing us by she mentioned the Venison was almost done. Initially other family members waited but their food was getting cold. By the time it came out everyone else was 1/2 way done and by the way 1/4 of the venison was almost raw. When I pointed this out to the hostess she did offer to cook it more but at that point I knew when it came back everyone else would be done so I ate around the raw meet. The lamb chops my wife ordered were tiny. You get 3 and each might have had 1 1/2 oz of meat. Maybe 4-5oz total, maybe. As asked, cooked to medium rare but very tough. Not good! The seafood past was quite good as was the sea bass. Everything else was mediocre. When we are on vacation we want a fun evening with good food, unfortunately this was a very disappointing experience. Winslows, if you want to be the best restaurant between Orleans an PTown you need to get your game on. We’d love to come back but for now there are...
Read moreA friend and I were down the cape to do a day hike at the Atlantic White Cedar swamp trail. We didn’t have a lunch spot in mind, but when we looked at the menu for Winslow’s Tavern we knew we needed to pay a visit and it surely didn’t disappoint. The second you walk inside, you’re captivated by the warmness of the restaurant. You feel like you’ve just arrived back home and all your friends and family are there to welcome you back.
My friend got the Venison off the South African Sunday Special menu; which was perfection! I’m happy she shared a piece with me.
I got the swordfish schnitzel and it was delicious. I would never of thought to do a schnitzel with a swordfish steak and it was such a comfort. The display of the food was exceptional, good portion of food that satisfies you and doesn’t make you feel like you could have asked for more. The attention to detail in the entire construction of the meal, makes you want to learn to be a better cook. It really is creating magic and it’s a gift to be able to cook with such passion and knowledge of making a meal that enlightens all the senses.
Also, the winter sangria was deviously delightful and I could have drank more if I didn’t have a long drive ahead. Next time we will have to arrange to stay in the area.
I would like to especially thank Richie for being an absolute delight to have met, his warm and charming personality were infectious and it was great laughing with him.
We will definitely be back, to our home away home. Thank you to the entire staff at Winslows Tavern, I’ll be telling everyone in the area to...
Read moreEven though we had been visiting the area for many years, this was the first time we went to Winslow's Tavern. We enjoyed it quite a bit, and plan to come back.
Despite being able to hear most everyone's conversations, it still managed to feel quite cozy. We sat inside, but outside looked like it was great as well.
The menu had a number of intriguing dishes to choose from. We started with the gazpacho. Other than needing a little salt, it was delicious, and I'd get it again. We also had the focaccia and caramelized onion spread. I wasn't crazy about it, but my wife enjoyed it. I felt it was a bit light on flavor, but I also realize that's a selling point for some. My dinner was the sweet corn risotto. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The prosciutto di parma was crispy and worked well as a salt component. The corn was sweet. My wife got the strozzapreti pasta. I didn't try it, so I can't comment on favor, but my wife enjoyed it quite a bit. Even though they didn't have plain pasta with butter and cheese on the menu, they gladly made it for our 9yr old, and did it well. It didn't look like an afterthought, like so many kid's options do. She also had chocolate and hazelnut gelato, which she loved.
Our waiter, Richie (or, is it Richy🤔) was great. Super friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed talking with him, and he was always ready to get us what we needed. He's got good energy, and a great personality.
The prices were even better than many surrounding places. I...
