A Hidden Gem in the Desert: Authentic Mexican Fare in a Doublewide Trailer
Tucked away from the neon lights and the bustling casinos of Wendover, NV, sits a true culinary treasure—an unassuming Mexican restaurant housed in a weathered doublewide trailer. It’s the kind of place you might drive past without a second thought, but those in the know will tell you: this is where you find the best Mexican food for miles.
From the moment you step inside, the air is thick with the aroma of simmering carne asada, handmade tortillas, and rich, slow-cooked sauces that tell stories of tradition and time-honored recipes. The décor is simple tables, a few photos of the salt flats—but that only adds to the charm. Here, the focus is on the food.
And oh, the food. Every dish bursts with bold, vibrant flavors. The tacos, stuffed generously with tender, smoky al pastor and topped with fresh cilantro and onion, are nothing short of perfection. The house-made tortillas, wrap your favorite mexican meat and tickle your senses with every bite. But the true standout? The pasole— pork slow braised, deeply spiced, and served with all the trimmings so rich you’ll want to drink it straight from the bowl. It's only served on Wednesdays though.
The staff, likely family members of the owner, treat you like a long-lost relative, ensuring your plate is never empty and your glass is always full. Service is warm, genuine, and unhurried—this is not fast food, and that’s exactly the point.
There’s no flashy sign, no fancy plating, and no gimmicks—just damn good food made with love. If you find yourself in Wendover, skip the buffets and slot machines for a night and make the journey to this hidden gem. It’s proof that sometimes, the best meals come from the most...
Read moreI came into this establishment and was greeted and sat by an elderly employee. He served me coffee and then he disappeared. 27 minutes passed, I was contemplating to pay for my coffee and leave but instead I went up to one of the employees and told him that the situation and that I was waiting to place my order. He quickly took my order, offered me more coffee, apologized and went to the kitchen to place my order. My food quickly came out which was AMAZING and Delightfully DELICIOUS! He continued to apologize and offered the meal to be on the house. As I was eating the elderly man came out (apparently he went out to lunch and had left the establishment), approached me and profoundly apologized for the miscommunication from his part to his co-workers which caused for my delayed order. I told him it was okay and he went on his way.
Long story short, the food was outstanding, great flavors, and the customer service went from a fumble to a 100 yard touchdown! Thank you so much to these employees, I went from having a perception of good food, bad service, to good food, and best genuine customer service.
When it was time to pay, the employees refused you take my money and we're still apologetic. They insisted that the food was on the house.
I highly recommend this food anytime you are in either West Wendover NV or Wendover UT. I will...
Read moreChecked out Salt Flat’s café recently & It was amazing! Definitely a hidden gem in the city. It’s slightly southwest of the casinos. The chips & salsa came out quickly after we sat down. The salsa was really spicy! I couldn’t handle much of it. It had good flavor just really spicy. My boyfriend ordered the Huevos Rancheros with carne asada. His only complaint was that he wishes the beans were on top of the chips instead of under the chips. He felt like it was hard to get to them until he ate the chips down more. He also ordered one single carne asada taco & he said he really liked this! Said the carne asada was cooked to perfection. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with rice & beans. This plate was massive! The sauce was dripping off the sides. It ended up coming with 3 enchiladas. More than I could finish by myself for sure! I’m not a lover of red enchilada sauce but I actually really liked their red enchilada sauce. The rice & beans were good. Service was really quick! Portions were huge & it only cost $30 total. They do only accept cash, so be aware of that...
