Golden Corral Buffet & Grill — Restaurant in Weslaco

This is gonna be a long review and I would normally not write such a long review unless it's needed. And based off my experience here and the other reviews I've just read it's justified.

My kids absolutely love going to Golden Corrals however this is probably the worst Golden Corral we ever been to.

I will start by saying with this when we walked it the hostess seemed nice so for that I'll give the one star but I wish I could give 0.

Now on to my gripes after we were seated I noticed a bad smell which should've been our sign to ask for a refund leave since we had yet to get any food but my wife didn't notice it at the time.

I took my kids up to get some food the first plate my kid picked up was still dirty and every thing on the buffet looks like it had been sitting for longer than it should. And what I mean by that is that coming from Colorado the Golden Corrals up there would take anything that seemed to be sitting and starting to look like it wasn't fresh off the line and replace it. Yes I know probably a waste of food but if it's just sitting and no one touching it that's a waste as well.

After my kids got seated with their food my wife and I went up to get our food. My wife got the bourbon chicken and rice one of her favorites but said it tasted burnt. I got a little piece of pot roast and mashed potatoes which was kinda cold as if the buffet line isn't maintaining proper temperature. Once back at our table my wife notice that her drink smelled and tasted of soap like the cup wasn't rinsed well but since we don't drink soda much that wasn't a big problem but guess what was.

After a few bites in my wife then smelled what I smelled walking in and the more we stayed the more we realized it smelled like mold and mildew. Once we noticed this we quickly left and will never go back to this location. I definitely believe a health inspection is long over due for this place which I must sadly say I will do my best to report.

My husband, daughters and i came to dinner at the weslaco location due to mcallen being closed early. Mcallen’s location has more options for sure but not as good service. Harlingen still tops these 2 but we really enjoyed having a nice waitress. I didn’t get her name but she had short hair, was hispanic and was very sweet. She made our experience enjoyable. The place is pretty dirty , the ac wasn’t working so not only were we hot but our baby was sweating and so were the workers. It felt really stuffy so we had to leave earlier than we expected. I was mostly disappointed that this location doesnt have the sweet potato casserole that I really enjoyed in the other locations so i got the baked sweet potato and just added marshmallow from where the ice cream is lol was not as good as i wanted it to be but it’s alright. The chocolate pie was SOOOO DELICIOUS! Had seen previous reviews that said the food was not hot or not the proper temperature like the meatloaf, roast, fish, chicken .. but it was at perfect temp for us and it was actually juicy. I had to check for myself if it was the same for us. Food was not lacking just missing more variety. Service at the front (cashier) could’ve been better they took at least 6 min to tend to us and we drove from edinburg so we just sucked it up. Ice cream machine wasn’t doing so well either but had good toppings in case it did work better than the other locations. Salad bar was huge so im guessing for the healthier people that would be amazing 😂! Honestly overall 3/5. If ac was working i would give it 4 stars cause the food wasn't bad at all. This review is sadly and heavy heartedly inputted to the output of this Golden Corral Google business page. As one of the GC Company’s largest fans, this specific location has a disappointing low bar of standards to included: messy and unsanitary buffett fixtures that had more food than the buffet itself, quality versus quantity played no factor today because the was little food, short kitchen staff, despite it being Good Friday which can be used an excuse today lack of preparation on staffing, lack of order in the environment which only helped promote chaos (which was evident by the staff response and climate of the customer atmosphere). We travel all over Texas and GC is always a Go To, however if this would have been the first spot, then there would never be another reason to step foot into another Golden Corral. Restrooms were filthy, which can be understood as it is a restroom, however the puddling of urine didn’t seam to be acknowledged by others, which may mean that this is message provided for this location. The server was the best part and she did her best, which why there are two stars in the first and second category. I see there are more star reviews from others, so perhaps today is a bad day for them. However, I doubt that, and if today reflects Easter Sundays big promotion of having breakfast, then I’m doing myself a favor by going to another...
