UPDATE Dec 9, 2021: I had to downgrade my rating. Although I have enjoyed Palenque in the past, I have to say I am disappointed with a recent order of the Fajita with Rice and bean Burrito. This burrito should be called Rice and Bean burrito with fajita, not the latter since the fajita is only there as a decoration for the rice and beans it seems. It it weren't for the price of a little over 9 dollars I wouldn't be writing this review.
(UPDATE)! Taco Palenque Management responded to my critique. I have to say I am blown away by their response. This tells me they care about their service and their food. As a result, I have upgraded my rating to 5 stars and will continue to be a customer of this great restaurant.
The food is great and for the amount you get, is reasonable. I would have given 5 stars if not for my last particular visit to pick up a phone order. I parked at one of their curbside slots to wait for my order. The time for my order came and went but no one brought it outside.. I went inside to inquire and my order had been ready for quite some time. I asked why they hadn't brought it to me. The young lady at the counter said no one was working outside at the moment, and I could have phoned them to bring it. Which defeats the purpose of the phone order and curbside service.
I like this place but their curbside order, as well as a pickup order parking slot are confusing as to how it works. The amount of time I waited is enough make me consider going elsewhere...
Read moreUpdate 09/30/2023: The level of service at this Weslaco location continues to spiral downward. Earlier, it took 20 minutes to get an order of three tacos, and some rice and beans through the drive-through. I finally had to get down and go inside to ask for it. I was told it was “being prepared now.” But something tells me if I hadn’t gotten down, I would’ve waited even longer for my order.
I’ve been to several Taco Palenques around the valley, and even a few in San Antonio. This is, without a doubt - and with absolute honesty - the WORST DRIVE-THRU SERVICE that I’ve ever encountered at any Taco Palenque. Oh, and to add insult to injury, they lied about the price of one buñuelo. I was told it would cost one dollar to add it to the order. However, the receipt stated it cost $1.29 and then it was taxed. So, total was closer to $1.45. So, they can add “sneaky” to their services.
If you have free time, and the price of gas is of no consequence to you, then Taco Palenque In Weslaco is your drive-through. If, however, you value your time and money, then definitely stay away from here. There are so many other places to get better tacos in the valley, and certainly much more quicker, without those...
Read moreGood place. 24 hours. Kind of reminds me of Mama Margies from San Antonio. Only the place has horchata!! Its may not be the best you ever had but they got it. It's right next to the Motel 6 so it's extremely convenient if that's where you're staying. How ever if you're like me and dont speak an ounce of Spanish then it may get a bit difficult ordering drive through. I've had 2 separate occasions on where I ordered something and they did repeat it back. "Pronounced the correct way" but with the radio not being the best quality and the noise in the background. I could understand how orders could get confused if you factor in all these things. So I started going inside to order. The food is good the price might be a bit jacked up for the quality. And the employees may come off a bit impatient and bored. They do however bring the food to your tables and they do serve alcohol. Overall you may have mixed experiences everytime. It shouldn't be a reason to pass it up. Stop by and give it a try if it is convenient for you.
Post Note- the picture is the large margarita. They are pretty...
