Misleading Pricing and Unclear Fees
I recently ordered from this Indian restaurant via Uber Eats and was deeply disappointed by the lack of transparency in pricing. The subtotal for my order was $48.00, but the final charge was a confusing array of fees and discounts that left me feeling misled. Hereâs a breakdown of what happened:
đ§Ÿ Order Details:
· Lamb Boti Kabab: $32.00 · Amritsari Machli: $16.00 · Subtotal: $48.00
â Fees Added:
· Delivery Fee: $0.49 · Service Fee: $9.60 · Tax: $2.52 · Tip: $4.00
â Discounts Applied:
· Delivery Discount: -$0.49 · Membership Benefit (Uber One): -$3.52 · Promotion: -$1.00 · Special Offers (Buy One Get One Free): -$16.00
đł Final Charge: $43.60** (though I was charged $39.84 on my card, which doesnât match the itemized total).
â My Concerns:
Misleading "Buy One Get One Free" Offer: · The promotion was advertised as "buy one get one free," but the discount ($16.00) was applied after fees. The service fee ($9.60) was calculated on the full subtotal ($48.00), not the discounted amount. This means I was charged a fee for the "free" item, which feels unfair . Unclear Fee Breakdown: · Additional fees like "Tax on Delivery Fees" ($0.66), "Uber Service Fee" ($0.10), and "Tax on Discount on Delivery Fee" ($0.03) were buried in the receipt. These were not clearly explained upfront, making it hard to understand what I was paying for . Inconsistent Final Charge: · The receipt showed a total of $43.60, but my card was charged $39.84. This discrepancy was never explained, and I suspect it might be due to overlapping taxes or unstated adjustments. Lack of Transparency: · Restaurants and delivery platforms should disclose all fees clearly before ordering. Instead, I was surprised by charges that felt like hidden costs . Practices like listing prices without dollar signs or burying fees in fine print are known tricks to make customers spend more without realizing it .
đ« Overall Experience:
I feel fooled by the complex pricing structure. The "buy one get one free" offer seemed like a great deal, but the way fees were applied negated the savings. I expected better transparency, especially from a reputable restaurant partnered with Uber Eats.
â Recommendations for the Restaurant:
· Clearly disclose all fees before checkout, including how service fees are calculated (e.g., whether they apply to pre-discount subtotals) . · Simplify pricing descriptions to avoid confusing customers. For example, list the final post-discount subtotal before fees instead of burying discounts at the end. · Audit partnership with delivery apps to ensure pricing practices align with your restaurantâs standards.
I hope this feedback helps improve transparency for future customers. Until then, I cannot recommend ordering via delivery apps from this place due to the risk of...
Read morePrior to going to Tashan Restaurant, I had to visited two other Indian Restaurants over the years. The food did not strongly resonate with me. After leaving a yoga class, I was drawn to try the food again. Deep down inside I truly wanted to experience a variety of foods in a friendly environment. I searched for places in my area and decided on Tashan after reading the reviews on Yelp. I was not disappointed to say the least. This place was what the Doctor ordered!
The experience and the food at Tashan has been utterly addictive since first trying. Their food is top notch and I would use at any of my Business or Personal Events! The chiken curry, basmati, shrimp biryani, garlic butter naan, chicken samosas, basmati rice, tikka masala, Paan Ice Cream are a pleasurable sensory overload! I could name more foods but there is not enough room on this post. The food is made to order and adjusted to your spice level preference. Rajesh Sahni oversees the day to day operations and is a magnificent host who is very educated when it comes Indian Cuisine and the various areas or cultures in which it originates. The menu is more extensive than any others I have seen. Do yourself a favor and review the website for the catering options. The owner, Akshay Janjhee, is a passionate young man who is following in his father, Raja Jhanjee (Co-Owner of the Internationally Acclaimed Bukhara Grill in New Delhi and NYC). Akshay's vision presented through his umbrella company, Khyber Grill Caterers, in which Tashan Restaurant and Peshawari Grill reside under, are top of the line! As a westerner, I have and continue to grow as a person through learning new things to uplevel myself when I visit Tashan. Rajesh is phenomenal and all of the employees are super friendly. Arnav Jhajee, Akshay's Brother, is usually around also facilitating day to day operations with Rajesh. Team work makes...
Read moreWe came to Tashan with a group of 3 on a Saturday night after discovering one of their other restaurants the week prior. I considered making a reservation in advance but got busy and forgot, no issues getting seated though at all. The restaurant has a pretty romantic vibe and I really like the décor.
The reputation of all their restaurants is very good and I must say that Tashan also lives up to the name. While I do find that the food is slightly more tuned to an American audience, I personally do not find that it makes it "inauthentic". I think it is delicious in its own way.
The Vegetable Manchurian appetizer is a MUST, I'm obsessed with all things Manchurian and I was not disappointed. We got the Saffron Butter Garlic Crab after trying it at the other restaurant. It was slightly different but still good. However, I personally felt that the crab did not taste as fresh as I would have liked; not sure if it was previously frozen.
We ordered only two main courses, which ended up more than enough for 3 people. We got the Shrimp Tikka Masala which was pretty flavorful as far as tikka masala dishes go; if you like spicy I would recommend going higher than "medium" spice dish. Chicken Biryani was good, that little pot holds a lot more rice than it appears from the outside; "medium" spice was spicy enough for me for this dish. Chili Garlic...
