Big Shoulders Coffee — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

Prior to the pandemic I always looked forward to coming here, relaxing, taking a seat and enjoying a Marshmallow latte which I HIGHLY recommend. I never did care for the scones though because they were pretty dry and kind of hard to swallow because of the dryness. I miss the old staff here. Now that we're still muddling our way through this pandemic it's strictly come in, order your drink and leave. Even though other coffee ☕ shops have reopened their doors to their customers; this particular location is strictly carry out only. You will also not be allowed to use the restroom here even if you're a paying customer. Yesterday I came here to order a drink to go but I'd been traveling 90 minutes from Schaumburg and really needed to use their restroom. The barrista didn't even feign politeness and acted outraged that I even asked this question. I completely understand each coffee shop now is operating on their rules from higher management but you can always be polite and the new staff isn't as friendly as the other location in Chicago's Gold Coast. Stopped by here while waiting on some car repairs and was pleasantly surprised! I ordered a manual brew with a pastry to dine in. It was served and brought to me on a wooden tray with a ceramic cup, glass carafe, metal spoon, plate, and a napkin. The coffee itself was a delicious single origin and the pasty paired perfectly with it.

The whole experience was so personable and lovely, which is so rare in today's pandemic and always-on-the-go world. It reminded me of cafe experiences and service in Japan. This is my go-to spot whenever I am in town and staying in the area, because I like indulging in local coffee with housemade syrups when traveling. I have always been treated warmly and served quickly, plus I love working on my computer at the window countertop to soak in the abundant natural light while people-watching. Be aware that iced drinks can only be made in 20 oz. sizes, which include four shots of espresso, and I believe oat milk is extra (cries in vegan).
