We were curious about this chain as soon as it opened on a long-vacant corner in our River West neighborhood. Our first try was a success, and we were sufficiently gung ho about the food that we went back twice more in a period of less than two weeks.
I'm a huge fan of the crunchy taco with carnitas, rice & beans, as well as the steak filling in the flour taco. Don't look past the rice and beans! Despite their supplementary role, the pintos are spot-on delicious as is the white rice.
My partner loves the burritos and the quesadillas with a preference for the chicken options (both spicy and regular).
The staff are super nice and the food is consistently fresh. One of the guys working the counter said proudly at one point that they "stand behind their meat." He was obviously making a joke, but in fact the steak, the carnitas, and the chicken that we each tried were exemplary in their flavor and tenderness.
Final tip: They make a couple of delicious hot sauces of the five-alarm-call-the-fire-dept variety (I personally like the red one best), but they don't offer them unless you ask. If you like your tacos and burritos extra spicy, don't miss out, but make sure to get these sauces on the side and take a pinky test before...
Read moreI absolutely love this place and come here multiple times in a weekend when I work in Chicago. It’s styled similar to Chipotle, where you select your meal and toppings, but with infinitely fresher and healthier tasting food. They also have much better topping options, like cilantro, onions, chopped jalapeños, different sauces, etc. I always get a custom veggie burrito, and love their hot sauce, which is actually hot for someone who loves spice. I like to grab a burrito to eat after I get out of work late, and it always stays super fresh and tastes delicious!
They have a number of locations around the city that I believe are all partners, but was so stoked that one opened up right down the street from my office. Roy, who I believe is the owner or manager at this location, is always super friendly and knows my order by now from all the times I come in! Highly recommend if you are looking for a better Chipotle alternative. Though I prefer to go in person, they also have an app that always delivers super quickly and they have never gotten my order wrong....
Read moreLet me just start by saying I never write google reviews, positive or negative, but I feel compelled to put this out there. I stop here often at lunchtime since I work nearby. On two separate occasions now, I have witnessed the daytime manager treat Black customers different than White customers. Examples: a few months back, I noticed that he verified that a Black customer was picking up the correct online order from the shelf that matched their name, while letting white customers just walk up and grab their food. I brushed it off but then I came back today, and the same manager said to a Black customer, "you know that will be $11 right?" when the customer said he wanted a chicken burrito, where me and my coworkers, both white, were not asked this question when we ordered just minutes prior, nor were we given the angry scowls that this customer was given for no good reason. Despite enjoying the food and the convenience, I will not be returning. This is obvious bias at play. Get it...
