Went to this Argentine place the other day with my wife and son. They took forever to get us some drinks and menus even though we were the only ones in the restaurant (were there at 5pm). Our server was good in the end but the nightmare started when they brought us our food… We ordered two medium rare pichanyas and one piece on the plate was good but the other one was well done. When I pay 30 dollars for a steak I would expect it to be done accurately or I would ask to get another one. We asked to remake one of them and asked to keep one of them so that we can start our meal. But they wouldn’t let us keep just one and insisted on taking both back to the chef. We said ok and waited. Next the supervisor came running trying to prove to us that steaks are ok and shining his phone on them. Never had this experience in any fine dining places! They argued with us for about five minutes at which point steaks got cold and we didn’t want to make a fuss anymore and asked to keep the steaks and leave us alone. Then through the night supervisor came and then a manager came asking us to recite what happened again and again. We said we don’t want to deal with this issue any longer but they just kept bothering us while we were eating. In the end we ended up paying for all the food we got, had disruptive night, and a horrible experience! My 16 month old cried at one point when the manager came for the third time and we had to tell the story again and again. Why do you keep coming to our table if you are not going to do anything about it? Did not replace the steak, did not take it off the bill, or offered anything else. Just kept nagging us. I am attaching pictures of the steak. You be the judge if it’s medium rare or not.

We came here on a day where a festival was happening on the street, luckily we had reservations. The music Nextdoor (maybe their bar) was very loud. We were seated quickly and served pretty quickly as well. The restaurant itself is very cute and spacious. They were out of certain drinks/menu items because of the festival issue. However, it wasn’t a huge issue for us. We tried to many different items - since it was our first time here. We had the spinach empanada- I chose this because it was vegetarian but I wasn’t a fan. My partner did like it (I am usually very picky). We also picked the provoleta and this was delicious, almost like eating this in Argentina. Very good, this was my favorite item. My partner had the chorizo trio and he said it was good, but nothing too superb. For entrees we had the ravioli with both sauces red and white and it was yummy, but again just too much food so I only had a few bites. It’s been a few weeks and I cannot remember what my partner had (the steak) also said he enjoyed it, but not sure he was blown away. I will say that we had the flan as desserts and it was DELICIOUS. Perhaps the best I’ve ever had I do recommend this spot, especially if you are in the mood for it. It was a good experience.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An unforgettable experience at Folklore! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm, rustic, and inviting—enhanced by the soft glow of candlelight. We ordered the El Che, a grilled flank steak served sizzling hot on a tabletop grill with red chimichurri, and it did not disappoint. The steak was tender, flavorful, and perfectly grilled. The accompanying roasted red peppers, asparagus, and shiitake mushrooms added the perfect earthy balance. Also worth mentioning: the mashed peas were silky and vibrant, and the yuca was tender and well-seasoned. Every dish felt thoughtful and well-executed. To top it off, the cocktail (with a crisp apple garnish!) was both refreshing and artfully crafted—clearly made with pride. If you're looking for an authentic Argentinian experience in Chicago with bold flavors and a cozy, romantic vibe, Folklore is a must. Can’t wait to return! 🕯️🥩🍷 #FolkloreChicago #ElCheSteak #ArgentinianCuisine #ChicagoEats #FoodieFinds #SteakLovers #LatinFlavors #TabletopGrill #ChimichurriDreams #CandlelitDining #ChicagoInfluencer #WickerParkEats #EatLocalChicago #SupportLocalRestaurants #Foodie #BestPlacetoEat

I took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day in 2019 and it was really great. We loved it and had a such a good time that we decided to go back in 2020 on Valentine's day on a double date. I made the reservation on February 3rd for 4 people at 9:00pm, as we couldn't make the other option of 5pm. We arrived around 8:50 to find a line out the door. I wasn't worried because we had reservations but upon telling the host our reservation seemed to have been lost, as countless other people also had 9pm reservations. It seemed like she was blaming me by asking if I received confirmation, however they took my credit card number when I made the reservation and said I'd be charged $40 if I cancelled, so I was not expecting any sort of confirmation.

To my chagrin, not only was our reservation lost, but everyone gathered in the tiny space seemed to ALSO have reservations. People had been waiting for 45 minutes who had reservations. I was not about to make girlfriend wait that long when it was already 9pm. The hostess had said she would talk to someone but when I asked her twenty minutes later if there was an update she seemed to not remember me at all. I explained our reservation was lost and she had said she would handle it.

Meanwhile, people are holding the door open and it's 8 degrees outside so everyone sitting and standing by the door was freezing. We kept pestering the host and at 9:30 she managed to get us seated a few rows from the door. Along with everyone in our section, we reamined cold for quite some time. It was then another 15 minutes before we were acknowledged and 25 before we were able to put in an order for apps and wine.

It could have been resolved if they would have listened to customer complaints asking for the door to be closed. If a discount or free drink/app was offered as an apology maybe that would have slightly offset the horrible experience on a high pressure romantic night, but management did not seem to consider any of this. Although the food was great, I am very hesitant to go back after...

Super 😥 disappointed. The service was bad and the food was midiocre. We'd been here before with my brother and his wife and the service was pretty good and the food was amazing so I decided to take my Hubby back for his birthday. When we arrived we were happy to discover it was a slow night thinking this would equate to fast seating and attentive service - nope!

The host was flat and made us wait at the bar although the place was more than half empty. He then came and got us and told us he'd seat us but, then instead proceeded to look something and make calls for a random passerby and then made small talk with an exciting customer. He wasn't moved in the least with its just standing there in front of him watching the whole scene. He just ignored us until my husband asked him excuse me, did you have a table for us? Not a good feeling.

After finally seating us in the half empty restaurant we sat and watched idle waitstaff stand against the back wall, refill water, and check on already serviced patrons. Our waiter never came. Again my husband after about 15 minutes had to ask the waiter for the table less than a half foot away from us if he could get our waiter for us to which he replied, "oh you need a waiter? I be your waiter, sure no problem" and shrugged his shoulders as if he was doing us a favor. So I told no it's ok, please just get our waiter to which he repeated his previous statement. I then asked him so, are you our waiter? Because I really couldn't belive he was, given the number of times he walked past us making eye contact knowing we had been waiting awhile. Again he just shrugged and responded "sure." Really? I was so annoyed! Not a good feeling.

I'll end this review with: the food took forever and our steaks were tough but, at least they were tasty. It was a disheartening birthday celebration we left wishing we'd stayed home. Not a...
