Went there for lunch on a Sunday with some friends and ordered the lunch special and shared some Spicy Udon Noodles. This is BYOB so we got some small drinks at the Beer Temple right next door. Food - delectable, not overstuffed with rice, and a good balance between all the ingredients to taste everything in unison. Sauce wasn't overdone, but had a nice balance of garnish and additive flavor Ambiance/Atmosphere - very clean, from what I saw (not that I would eat off the floor). The music wasn't too loud, the place wasn't too crowded. Parking was easy (there's limited parking behind the building and street parking readily available on Elston/California/Belmont). It had good decor with a solid industrial black/grey theme. They are consistent with furniture. Menu wasn't dirty and was made on clean cardstock with good descriptions to know everything in case there are allergies. Service - very quick but not overbearing. We never had to ask for our server, and he was very polite, even when one of our party came very late and just ordered something extra. The server is a kind human. Did not experience other staff. Prices - reasonable. A lunch special (ends at 3p) with miso soup and 2 rolls was anywhere from 10-14. There are vegetarian and vegan options available (not much, but there are vegetarian sushi options, yes. I hope you like avocado).
Great job Jaiyen. Keep up...
Read moreSeriously, this place does fried rice dishes justice.
I have visited this restaurant a few times with coworkers and friends and they all consider it to be a Gem. Their dishes are moderately priced, but unlike many many places, you get above and beyond what you pay for.
My favorite dish is the Curry Fried Rice. It has everything plus the kitchen sink thrown into it, making it the most amazing rice dish I have ever tasted. They do not skip on the ingredients. Giving more meat than there is rice, a wide variety of veggies, Cashews and Pineapple slices, what I believe almost amounts to half a carrot and more, this dish is seasons to perfection and I have yet to be let down by it. Jiayen's has made me think less of other restaurants. I am spoiled and fear the day I...
Read moreMy family absolutely loves to come here when they visit. The sushi is good, the menu is expansive and we always get to try something new. My parents like to bring my little brother so he can learn more about food since there are so many options, and he loves it for this. The place was beautiful, as always, and packed with patrons while clearly getting lots of delivery orders and we stil got our two sushi orders and a to-go order for the next day very promptly given such a rush, and the sushi has cute sauce designs. Those dragons are so good for mixing sauces. Almost left without our takeaway, but a staff member came and fetched us from the sidewalk. Thank you so much for that! I wish I had a picture of the Thai iced tea glasses also because they are...
