⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Hidden Gem for Holistic Health!

I can’t say enough good things about this Black-owned, family-run health store! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed like family. The energy is warm, knowledgeable, and truly rooted in community wellness.

They have an incredible selection of herbs, supplements, teas, and natural health products — everything you could possibly need to support a healthy lifestyle, and then some! Whether you’re looking for immune support, digestive help, or something more specific, they’ve got you covered. And the quality? Top-notch. You can tell they take pride in sourcing only the best.

What really sets this place apart is how informative and helpful the staff is. They don’t just sell you products — they take the time to educate you on what you’re buying and why it works. I left with not only the right remedies but also a better understanding of how to use them.

It’s rare to find a store that blends expertise, authenticity, and heart so seamlessly. If you care about your health and want to support a business that genuinely cares about you in return, this is the place to go.

Support local. Support Black-owned. Support family-owned. You’ll be...

Ran across shop on accident: beautiful location . Energy is awesome. Ms. Keke has an amazing or an ambience and they accept EBT for their seamoss so I will be back real soon. They are small location, but pack a power punch when it comes to everything that you’re looking for regarding tinctures, educational books, shampoo, and conditioner, teas and many many more. Thank you for welcoming me and I will be a customer for life. Blessings upon everyone that operates the store and the owner and keeping the business in the family. What a beautiful thing yall are continuing to do for the community and those coming from all around the worked etc . Thank you thank you thank you. Zina from California. Whether it’s a sea moss, body oils, detoxification, beauty, health food, healthy supplements and even alkaline water you can get it here and I assure you it’s all authentic and mostly organic. This is a family business that was founded on faith, hard work and it’s focus is helping people with their health food needs. Trust me when I say they have everything. Everything? Everything! So stop by if your in the area and pick up something good for yourself. Thank me later. Tell em Mr. Brown sent you! New Life Health Foods, located at 3141 W Roosevelt Road on Chicago’s West Side, is a landmark business with deep roots in the city’s Black wellness and entrepreneurial history. Founded in 1962 by the Barney family, it began as a neighborhood initiative to bring natural healing and plant-based nutrition to the underserved Lawndale community. In an era when access to organic products, herbal medicine, and vegetarian diets was virtually nonexistent on the West Side, New Life emerged as a trailblazer. For decades, it operated both as a health food store and as a beloved vegetarian restaurant, where community members could learn about natural healing, try meatless meals, and receive wellness advice from a staff steeped in herbal knowledge. The store quickly became more than a retail space — it became a cultural and spiritual hub for health-conscious Black Chicagoans seeking alternatives to Western medicine and processed diets. Over the years, New Life evolved with the times but stayed grounded in its mission. While the restaurant portion eventually closed, the store expanded its offerings to include hard-to-find herbs, vitamins, alkaline water, natural beauty products, and holistic supplements. It became especially well known for selling affordable alkaline water and premium sea moss, both of which remain in high demand. Generations of families have turned to New Life not only for products but for guidance and care — a testament to its reputation for trust and authenticity. Through changing neighborhoods and shifting health trends, New Life Health Foods has stood resilient, rooted in the principles of self-healing, Black empowerment, and community service. Today, it remains one of the oldest Black-owned health food stores in the country and continues to serve as a beacon of holistic health in Chicago.
