We went for a quick bite after reading some reviews. One other person was there eating, so we (three adults and two kids) sat down to place an order. Asking for info about the sandwiches seemed to be a mistake as the lady attending us seemed bothered being asked. On top of it, when I asked if they had any type of juice for our kids, she lost it explaining they have beer and water only. Skip to our order; 4 large sandwiches and couple beverages (water for kids) = $60. So, for $10 sandwiches you'd expect decent amount of dressing/mayo/etc. The spread on mine was so light that I asked for extra, she acknowledged but never brought it. I go to the counter, it seemed like they were unhappy I asked for some extra spread...wth!? My draft beer was flat, so that is an immediate one star loss. Service was mediocre, I mean for $10+ a sandwich you'd think they would be a little bit more considerate. Sandwiches were good, but nothing to write home about; except for the bad reception. Maybe we caught them in an off day, not sure but we are definitely never returning. Way too many more options in Chicago to deal...
Read moreEdit: My food eventually arrived so I've changed my rating but will not be ordering from/visiting here again. Perhaps if there are delays in fulfilling orders, you should expend the listed delivery time, remove yourself completely on delivery apps until the issue is resolved OR at the very least take some accountability vs. throwing your hands in the air when a paying customer has a concern.
Original review: The reviews for Humboldt Haus weren't bad so I took a chance and ordered online. That said, it's 40 min and counting after the projected delivery time and when I called, I was told in a very nonchalant way that "the food is ready but we have no idea when the driver will arrive. It's out of our hands." It's a bit unnerving that a restaurant would offer delivery service without the ability to control when the food is delivered. Also, the tone of this woman implied that I was unreasonable for wanting a general idea of when my food would be delivered. So, here's to hoping that it arrives...
Read moreMy boyfriend highly recommended this place so of course I had to order some delivery on a weeknight after a long and busy week. It was difficult to decide which sandwich I wanted and he mentioned that many people he knew liked the west sider, so of course I had to give that one a try. We both ordered that sandwich and when I also saw that there was a peanut butter snickers pie, I figured that wouldn’t hurt to try either. :)
Delivery was fast and the sandwiches arrived wrapped carefully. Every ingredient tasted fresh, sprouts were crisp, and bread was perfectly fluffy!
We’ve been doing everything in our power not to completely devour the pie in one sitting because it’s so delicious. I wondered if it would actually be a little too rich because of all the ingredients being so sweet, but surprisingly the combination of these ingredients really make for a unique and not overly sweet dessert. But I would still recommend some milk just to enjoy the pie...
