A quick Google search of "tacos near me" showed me this was one of the highest rated spots close to me. I took my daughter here about 3:30 on a Friday. We were greeted immediately upon entering. There are about 10 tables, so it's not too big or too small. We were given menus, and the young waitress took our orders. She didn't write anything down. This always makes me keep my order as simple as possible out of fear of it being messed up. The food came out about 15 min later.
We were given complimentary chips and salsa, which were both pretty good. I ordered the pork taco dinner. My daughter ordered 2 steak tacos. She also wanted fries. They don't have fries. The taco dinner came with 3 tacos, beans, and rice. The rice and beans were seasoned well. The pork tacos were good. I added cilantro, onion, cheese, and sour cream. Cheese and sour cream cost extra. The pork had a slight crispy char that added extra flavor to the taco. It was chef's kiss. My daughter loved her steak tacos. She ate them both without a complaint. I tasted a piece of her steak that made me wish I'd gotten the steak instead. The steak was seasoned perfectly! It was seasoned so well that I got more tacos to go for dinner later on.
A complaint I have is that the waitress was not attentive. After we got our food, she never came back. She only appeared towards the end of our meal, and I heard someone on the phone tell her to come back because there were now a couple of people in line. She physically had left the restaurant space. She was a younger girl, upper teens to lower 20s maybe. With my to-go order of 4 steak tacos and a chicken burrito, the bill came out to about $67. I also did not like that when I paid, there was no tip option. She rang me up for my total, took my card, and then I thought there would be a receipt for me to write a tip. There wasn't. They had one of the little white machines, so I also thought I'd be able to select a tip. I didn't even handle the machine. She did it all. When I asked how could I leave a tip, I was told not to worry about it. But it didn't sit right with me to not leave one. Thankfully, I had cash and was able to leave a tip. I also didn't get a receipt, which I asked for.
I'll definitely be back. The food was really good, and it seemed like a nice, community and family...
Read moreOh my gawddddd. I cannot tell you how lucky I was to stumble into this place. I was in the neighborhood visiting a friend, and while I was waiting for them to get off of work, I decided to stop into this taqueria. What an incredible, fortunate decision.
My first impression walking in was the mix of interesting, antique, and almost steam-punk like decor. Very intriguing design while still being a very comfortable setting. A large, open-space design with a couple of counters at the back. I assumed I was supposed to order at the counter, but was told to sit down and they could come to me.
I ordered three tacos, steak and onion, chorizo, and chicharron, along with rice. The chicarron was easily the best I've ever had, and it literally just melted in my mouth. I travel for a living and have had incredible tacos all over the country. These folks know what they are doing and the chicharron in particular was in the top three tacos consumed.
Lastly, as incredible as the food was, was the family atmosphere. I came into the restaurant at the every end of lunch, and so I ended up being the only customer for a bit. They were very welcoming with me, consistently checking up on me and offered me something to drink. They had their children in there and put some music on as they danced and sang together. Was very intimate and something I appreciated greatly.
If you're in the neighborhood and wanting some truly authentic Mexican food, stop on in. If you're looking for 'tex-mex' or something more American, this wouldn't be your...
Read moreThis place is my favorite taqueria in all Chicago! The story of how I found this place was many many moons ago and I want to share it with you all back in 2013 I used to live in buck town and there was this little Mexican grocery store around the corner inside there was a taqueria and that’s where i met the founder. That little grocery store closed a couple of years later but moved to a different location on north ave. I didn’t care I drove all the way out there because I loved the tacos. Once I got there I noticed my favorite taquero wasn’t there and the tacos did not taste the same. I asked them where he went and they didn’t want to give me any Information on him. A whole year passed went to different places and no luck . I moved to la hermosa which is a neighborhood next to Humboldt park and I saw this Mexican spot. It smells so good so I decided to check it out! It was literally my long lost taquero I was so happy to see him and the food was exactly how I missed it. He opened up his own shop and I started supporting that business ever since. Got married left to Houston and Louisiana came back to Chicago and now he has two locations. Business is doing amazing! Please support your local business! Good is great and customer service...
