La Encantada Restaurant — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

As a Mexican couple we would give La Encantada 5 stars. Place is super nice and food, drinks and dessert are delicious!

As a downside we were talking to the table next to us (two American guys that know Mexico perfectly) The lady owner Irma started yelling at us, calling us names, calling us priviledged and repeating all the lies that AMLO, the mexican president, has told his supporters for decades. Just because we were giving our point of view in this matter. Mexico is on its way to become the next Venezuela unfortunatelly. USA started having problems with this narco-president already. But don't listen to Mexican people that has not experienced that yet, but listen to all the Venezuelan people that already lived the experience of a dictator and they hear the same words of those dictators (Chavez and Maduro) in this mexican president's mouth. Like following the play book.

Sorry I didn't want to make this post about politics, but just to make people aware that because the owner was not invited to the conversation she had no right to interfere and call us names. We were her customers, PERIOD. I still tipped her 20% but promise ourselves not to go back ever again. Only to pick up tge reading glasses we forgot trying to rush and exit from that...

Dipped in from the cold to a warm environment, both physically and emotionally. Family vibe for real, but the owner lets those that are looking she can get down with the weird ones with her strange paintings and a little dali here, a little mom art there- I mean that in a nice way tho- Met Irma the said owner and eavesed as she discussed the finer points of Mexican breakfast with another patron. Based on how dope my dinner was (an exceptionally prepared chicken burrito suiza) one can only hope and pray she whips the kitchen into a breakfast mode. SHe kept it so real with me as we talked about the changing neighborhood and politics, and I almost automatically hugged her on the way out- straight up! Felt like visiting family, just met this woman too. I mean I'm a goof for real but let that shine a little light on the vibe of this place. You will feel at home, price was A_OK too. Very, VERY good food. The menu is on par with Mi Tocaya or Dos. We had the ceviche, the chiles en nogada and the enchiladas en mole. Not a single disappointing bite. The drinks were also excellent. We sat on the patio, which is absolutely beautiful.

I do wish more people ate at here. We were the only people there for dinner, but my guess is that’s a byproduct of the vibe the storefront and inside bar give off. The space could use a facelift to match the quality of food. I know that’s a big expense, but making it a bit more inviting would go a long way towards bringing people in the door. I’ve lived a block away for four years and have been getting coffee next door at Cafe Colida since they opened. Had I not looked it up, I would have guessed La Encantada was no longer open just walking by.
