Super delicious! So close to 5/5!! But! It’s a 4/5.
Here’s why:
To Beginn with, I’d like to start off by saying that I ordered multiple times! (This is how good they are)
What did I order: (from most favorite to least favorite)
„Chicken Snaps“ the marinade was perfect, the texture so authentic and the taste was on point! Full 5/5! ( I am glad I still had vegan ranch at the hotel - great dip option that I unfortunately couldn’t order from the restaurant itself) but! They did however serve the oyster mushroom chicken with tasty bbq sauce as a side.
Next up, BBQ Ribs! 5/5! (Again, I used my own ranch, would have been great if the restaurant also offered vegan ranch- I did not find it on the menu, if they did have it and I overlooked it- excuse me for this)
Last 5/5 experience… and surprisingly!! The yams! They were just perfect. Why surprisingly? Because I originally ordere mash potatoes. When the food arrived, the restaurant wrote „so sorry - no mash“. I guess I’ll never know how the mash will taste … ;)
Now… the least favorite options with explanation.
„Mac n cheese“ - sorry… but I’ve had some real good vegan Mac n cheese and this… this was NOT it. Taste was neutral, noodles with hardly any season. 2/5
Braun lentil soup - sorry… but also not enough taste. Not enough season. Tasted almost plain. 2/5
All in all, I would still rate my orders 4/5 if you try the delicious items I’ve mentioned above! I am sure they have even more great dishes and I am looking forward to my next visit to Chicago to try the variety of their menu.
One last thing that irritated me, as i ordered (via Uber eats) I did want to purchase the ribs additionally; without having to order the full soul plate. That would have been great!
Lastly, I am happy to recommend this here vegan soul food menu! Finger licking good experience and most importantly, WITHOUT Animal Cruelty!
Well done!

Read moreWent here based on the photos of the place which included images of their chalkboard menu and inside dining. When I arrived it looked like a completely different location (which I realized after confirming it was the right place on their website that they are at a temporary location). Currently it isnt a cafe at all. It's a small building with thick bulletproof glass and long counter seperating the small ordering section with a few chairs and the back of house kitchen. The place smelled so strongly of oil that my partner and I had to shower and wash our clothes after only being in there for 15 or so minutes. The options were very limited, and you'll want to check their website menu vs going off of the images in the reviews of the chalkboard menu. No soup or mac n cheese soulfood type options. All of the actual reasons we came weren't there from atmosphere, to nice sitdown dining and food options were not there. We gave it a go anyway in hopes for some good tasting food as per the reviews but it was not good food. The fake meat was incredibly oily and did upset our stomachs later. The salad and fry servings are small. The actual cost of the meals considering how sketchy the location was and how not as advertised it was, was shocking. The salad was also very basic and small portioned considering it is a vegan/veg place. What I can say is the woman who took our order was kind, and didn't mind repeating some things through the mic, and the kitchen staff were good about coming back to confirm an order when there was a miscommunication vs just giving ua their best guess (which we appreciated). In otherwords the staff were good. But I would absolutely not go back, especially while they're at that...
Read moreRespectfully the 5 star review is only for the watermelon beet juice and the fresh produce they use on the food. We are truly grateful for that.
We give 0 stars for the food. Respectfully there are some inorganic products in their food filled with toxins and chemicals. My body always speaks to me as soon as something inorganic touches it so this was the first and last time I eat here. Grateful to have the awareness to properly detox the body to not be impacted negatively about this.
I do not recommend this place. We hope that restaurants will do research on the appropriate things to use. Or hand make the items with love.
The jerk jackfruit tacos were bland and flavorless. The shell was falling apart. I suggest grilling the shell a little longer or double the shell. We don’t eat fried food. That exudes extreme toxicity. So the Shrimp taco was out the question. We left in our order notes If they can swap it for another. Although it makes no difference because it’s not tasty in our opinion. We love fresh food, cooked slow, made with love, made from Mother Earth. 100 percent plant based food with no toxins. The No beef taco had a weird after taste.
The macaroni is disgusting for a lack of better words. I’m speechless with how terrible it tasted.
The business is doing well so folks like this type food so the ones that enjoy it indulge. The ones that actually care about their health and well being….stay far away.
