Velvet's Tacos is an absolute gem nestled in the vibrant heart of Chicago's West Loop, offering a tantalizing array of tacos that are sure to satisfy even the most discerning palate. As a seasoned food enthusiast, I found myself pleasantly surprised by the sheer diversity and creativity of their taco offerings. From classic favorites to innovative culinary creations, each taco is a delightful explosion of flavors and textures that leave a lasting impression. Stepping into Velvet's Tacos, one is immediately greeted by a cozy yet chic ambiance that sets the perfect tone for an enjoyable dining experience. The restaurant's stylish decor and welcoming atmosphere make it an ideal destination for a post-night out meal with friends or a casual dinner date. Moreover, its convenient location makes it easily accessible, providing a convenient option for those looking to satiate their hunger after a night of revelry in the city. What truly sets Velvet's Tacos apart, however, is the impeccable quality of their ingredients and the meticulous attention to detail evident in each dish. Whether you're craving something savory, spicy, or refreshingly light, there's a taco on the menu to suit every taste preference. From succulent grilled meats to fresh seafood and vibrant vegetarian options, every bite is a testament to the chef's culinary expertise and commitment to excellence. One standout aspect of Velvet's Tacos is the adventurous flavor combinations that push the boundaries of traditional taco fare. Each taco is thoughtfully crafted with unexpected ingredients and bold spices, resulting in a symphony of flavors that dance on the taste buds. Whether it's the zesty tang of the citrus-marinated shrimp taco or the smoky richness of the slow-cooked barbacoa, every bite is a culinary adventure that leaves you craving more. Overall, my experience at Velvet's Tacos was nothing short of exceptional. From the diverse menu and inviting ambiance to the impeccable service and unforgettable flavors, it's clear that this establishment is a standout destination for taco lovers in Chicago and beyond. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or simply looking for a delicious meal to enjoy with friends, Velvet's Tacos is sure to leave a lasting impression. Highly recommended!

Velvet Taco in Chicago has completely redefined what I expect from a taco joint. This isn't your typical taqueria—it's an experience that has me planning my flight connections through O'Hare just to get my fix. I've literally driven straight from the airport during a brief layover just to indulge in these mouthwatering creations. That's right—I risked missing my connecting flight for these tacos, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Every single taco I've tried has been nothing short of extraordinary. The flavor combinations are both innovative and perfectly balanced. Their spicy tikka chicken taco brings together Indian and Mexican flavors in a way that shouldn't work but absolutely sings. The slow-roasted angus brisket taco with its perfect smokiness and tender texture is practically life-changing. And don't get me started on their fish tacos—crispy, fresh, and topped with just the right amount of creamy sauce. The corn tortillas taste freshly made, and the ingredients are clearly sourced with care. What impresses me most is the attention to detail—each garnish, each sauce, each element feels deliberately chosen to create the perfect bite. Nothing is an afterthought here. The atmosphere matches the quality of the food—vibrant, energetic, and contemporary without feeling pretentious. The staff are genuinely passionate about what they're serving and happy to make recommendations if you're overwhelmed by choices (which you will be). Chicago has no shortage of incredible food options, but Velvet Taco stands in a category of its own. It's become my non-negotiable Chicago stop, even if I'm just passing through. If you have to choose just one taco spot in the Windy City, make it Velvet Taco. Just make sure you have enough time before your next flight—because you'll want to try everything on the menu. A culinary highlight that's worth traveling across the country for!

I tired this place for the first time on Sun 2/23/25 around 6:15pm. I was very pleased with the customer service, food, speed of service, and cleanliness of the restaurant and bathrooms. I will surely return. Since it was my first time, I tried several tacos. Each was flavor packed and was like an entrée on its own. I love the concept and execution of this place. Here’s a breakdown with my opinion of the tacos. I will also add, the blue corn chips and guacamole were very good. Cuban Pig: 5/5 This taco was amazing. It was a little spicy, but the spice was worth it. This taco has pickles on it. I never thought it would work, but it definitely did. This is a must try taco and was my favorite. Rotisserie Chicken: 4/5 The roasted corn pico, and charred tomato poblano salsa were great additions to the taco. However, they slightly overpowered the chicken. I would’ve liked the flavor of the chicken to push through a bit more. However, this was still a great taco. Mexi-Cali Shrimp: 4/5 This was a good taco with perfect toppings. The shrimp could’ve used a bit more seasoning. However, it was still good, and all the toppings helped to elevate the flavor of the overall taco. Grilled Salmon: 3/5 Napa slaw, citrus lime crema, pickled fresnos, roasted corn pico, avocado crema, micro cilantro. All great toppings, but again, the salmon needed a boost in seasoning. This was not one of my favorites. Chimichurri Steak: 3/5 The chimichurri was great. However, the steak was tough and not seasoned well. Quesa Birria: 1/5 This is one I would not try again. Overall, it was too salty, there was not enough meat, and there was no flavor beyond salt. This taco might need to be taken off the menu.

I was attempting to give my business to the West Loop Velvet Taco on 3/15/25 around 10pm. I understand this is a busy day for Chicago food businesses, but as someone who has patronized Velvet Taco since 2015, I had no expectations on what I was about to encounter. The main entrance to the restaurant was closed and all the patrons were told to enter from the other door, which was not an issue, but the main problem arose from the security guard, who was clearly on a power trip. I was with my friends and was simply trying to order some tacos as I have been for the past decade, but as soon as I entered, the security guard greeted me with absolute disrespect and hostility, and even put his hands on me. I was shocked in the moment and decided I no longer wanted to support the business with my money, but stayed along since my friends were still looking to order. Even though I made it clear that I was not looking to place an order and was only there, at that point, to wait for my friends receiving their order, I was still met with the same hostility from this security guard who was clearly on a power trip. If you cannot handle the volume with respectable and streamlined operations on a day like St Patty’s Day in Chicago, then simply close! But you cannot treat your customers like this. If I ever encounter a similar type of horrendous experience that violates my rights and experiences as a law-abiding, fully paying customer, I will file a lawsuit against Velvet Taco to the fullest extent possible. In this moment, to avoid any legal action against the “security guard” that was present and that treated a long-term customer with such disdain and physicality, I expect, at the minimum, a $100 credit for any and all Velvet Tacos across the U.S., and internationally, if applicable. I also first tried leaving this review directly through their app, but was unable to do so, further illustrating their ignorance on the customers that have downloaded their app and built...
