Having been in Montana hiking for 5 days, a group of us were so excited to enjoy a quality meal at a highly rated restaurant, my how we were surprised, in the worst way!
A shift in reservation bringing it forward one day became a tactic used against us when our dining experience took a turn.
We were seated outside facing a main highway and very active train track which was a charm we were willing to lean into. Kate our server was phenomenal, making sure we tasted the wines we wanted and recommended dishes she thought we’d like.
We settled in to our drinks and in came the bees, not one, not two but ten to twenty all over us, the drinks and eventually the apps. It was so disturbing that we went inside to ask if there was a chance to move our table inside. To say that Tom was condescended is an understatement. His response to a woman asking to move inside was “this is Montana what do you expect there are bugs!” And “oh, you’re the one who moved your reservation right?” We have no problems with bugs, have been in the mountains for 5 days, we also asked to move our reservation and at no point were told we would no longer be inside. He refused to help us! Even after asking if there was anything we could do to deter the bees, we were waved away.
We moved ourselves to a corner, covered our colorful clothing in their black napkins and concocted a water and sugar distraction when no one was offering any solutions. This didn’t work at all, bees swimming in our food, floating in our drinks, landing on our faces, you name it they were doing it.
Kate acknowledged the struggles we were having, was very willing to help. Her service was so wonderful. The food we had was amazing, their chef is incredible. But how a manager can ruin a dining experience over an unwillingness to help paying customers is so disappointing.

Read moreOur loud, large party had dinner there a few days ago and received some of the most excellent service and food I've received ever, and I'm a major foodie.
First, we went to the bar, since we were early. Despite being a large boisterous group, the bartender kept up and made delicious drinks for all of us and the rest of the restaurant very quickly. The manager was able to accommodate putting us at one outside table, which we didn’t expect but were so excited by. Also, probably a good call on his part since we can be loud! Our server was so friendly and just did an excellent job checking in and staying on task with a group where it’s hard to be heard. She was the perfect mix of fun, but also professional.
We had a little of basically the entire menu and everything was thoughtfully and deliciously prepared. The standouts for me were the Shishito Peppers and Meatball appetizers and the apple blondie desert. I don't usually even go for meatballs, but these were delicious, not dry at all, and the sauce was fabulous. The peppers were so good I could have eaten three plates of them myself and that orange vinaigrette they came with was SO good. The blondie was a huge surprise to me, since I usually prefer a more experimental dessert to a brownie/blondie. But the apple addition and the malted ice cream on the side really made it quite interesting and so moist and flavorful.
I cannot recommend this place enough. As someone who has been in the area before, it was my favorite place I’ve been. The atmosphere is classy and historic, without being stuffy or too elegant. It is not a cheep restaurant, but you get what...
Read moreI don’t usually write reviews, but I was so let down I really couldn’t help it. I was surprisingly let down by the food here. With all the raving reviews and the images in the reviews, I thought I would treat myself to a nice dinner with a unique cuisine here. Everything was incredibly boring. None of the food or drinks had strong flavors and was seasoned minimally. I don’t know if the menu is different for lunch or if it changes seasonally or something, but nothing I saw in the reviews was on the dinner menu. I ended up getting the drunken muscles, which were fine, but again, still lacking in seasoning. I was disappointed to see the main entrees were all very basic meals like fish, pasta, and steak. I ordered the bangers and mash because it seemed like the only mildly interesting dish, and was disappointed again with unseasoned mashed potatoes and gravy. The sausages were the only thing with any taste- I don’t think any salt and very minimal butter was added to the potatoes, and the gravy would have been tasteless if it wasn’t slightly sweetened, which was just weird. I ended up forgoing dessert because the only options were, again, boring things you could find anywhere like pie and ice cream. Considering this is one of the most expensive places to dine in the area, I was really hoping something with a more unique menu and, like, maybe some salt or something. It’s literally been the most lack luster food I’ve had in the area. The waitress was very nice, which was really the only redeeming quality. All in all, very subpar experience for a...
