Do I dare say that this local spot in Norristown has the best sushi in KOP?
I've been to Ronin a good couple handful of times. They have a family kind of atmosphere where the staff makes jokes with the customers and treat you like friends/family. They will remember you when you return which you will return, and they will make you feel welcomed. So I think that goes to show you how their service will be.
Their food is amazing too! The drinks they serve are in cans, so don't expect any free refills. Odd comment, but they have really nice thick napkins that makes cleaning messes or keeping yourself clean very easy. I wish I had them at my house... I was not overly impressed with the Ramen or Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box when I had it from here. The Ramen didn't taste like traditional Ramen to me, and the egg in the Ramen seemed to have a very unique flavor that just didn't sit right with me. The Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box is a great value choice, but I feel like the flavoring for the Chicken Teriyaki didn't live up to expectations.
The Godzilla, Volcano, California, and West Norriton rolls are just a few rolls I've had from here. They are very delicious, and you get your moneys worth with them compared to other restaurants. Highly recommend the Godzilla and Volcano rolls as they are my go to favorites and usually for my friends too!
Give Ronin a try if you want to support a small business with amazing food...
Read moreI went there for 2 things in my mind (1) Takoyaki and (2) Tonkatsu ramen. Because this was my first time, I ordered takoyaki first to see if it was okay. They are not Japanese because I heard they spoke Chinese Mandarin, but it should not be a significant factor I thought.
As for the takoyaki, the dough was a bit off. Bonito's flake was not flaky enough, it was a bit chewy because it was sliced too thick. However, it was not so bad that would stop me from trying the ramen.
Then, I ordered my favorite, Tonkotsu ramen. However, it was not at all what I expected. The soup was a kind of soy sauce based and the "Chashu" was not "Japanese Chashu" (Japanese Braised Pork Belly). It was a kind of protein from a slow cooking process. It is not hard to visually tell whether it is "Japanese Chashu". This is because the real one is made from rolled-up pork belly; so you can see the spiral when it was horizontally cut. This "Chashu" was the fake one. The soup was just a soy sauce base. On the menu, they said "Tonkotsu Shouyu Ramen". Even though they have the word "Shouyu" (Japanese Soy Sauce), I think it is still misleading. My suggestion, in the end, is don't hope you will get the best tonkatsu ramen and Takoyaki experience from this place. I cannot speak of other menus, but I...
Read moreThis new restaurant seems to be trying but seems pretty overwhelmed. We ordered Spicy Kani rolls which were good. Sashimi Deluxe which was fair. The problem was the Vegetable Ramen. Once we got home we saw that the ramen had leaked allover! Which I guess wasn't so bad since it was pork ramen. I tired calling twice but they didn't answer so I called from my wife's phone, that call was answered. When they answered I let them know and back to get the correct ramen the gentleman on the phone said "you don't like pork?". I said no my wife has an allergy I just want what I ordered. He seemed annoyed with me. I went back and picked up the correct order. The woman working, who I'm assuming was the owner, was very nice and apologetic and even gave me a seaweed salad at no charge. The ramen was definitely instant not home made and it was already in the broth which was luke warm and missing the majority of the vegetables that were supposed to be in the dish. Sadly it was far from authentic. So $45.00, 2 dodged phone call and 2 trips back to the restaurant and I didn't even eat much of my cold instant noodles. I won't order from here again BUT maybe after they are open a while longer and get things running smoothly it will be better. I wish them luck but its...
