Ordered delivery. I never write reviews and very rarely do I have complaints about food—even on my significant other’s subpar, always cooked till it’s 1000% dead—on the verge of becoming ash—cooking. But I have to say that the fried dumplings and the egg roll were absolutely awful. No joke, I almost spat out the single bite I had of each of these items. Both dishes went into the garbage. I hate wasting food! The fried rice was oily, unable to eat with chopsticks and some vegetables (broccoli good) in the rice looked and tasted like they came out of a can (mushrooms, etc.). The crab rangoon filling was very sour with no hint of sweetness, and the sauce that came with them didn’t help overcome the sourness either. The only thing that was decent was the sesame chicken. The sauce was a bit thick—it congealed into chunks, but the flavor was good and meat was crispy, moist, and juicy. Maybe we caught this restaurant on a bad day?? The cost was crazy high particularly because we trashed 90% of the order. We looked up reviews on the restaurant before ordering and wanted to find ‘our’ go-to-Chinese restaurant. However, we were incredibly...
Read moreFong's Garden has some of the best food at it's price point (sub-$10 for most things on the menu as of August 2022) in all of Palm Beach County. In fact, it punches above it's weight if I'm being completely honest. If you find yourself with 15 minutes of this little hole-in-the-wall restaurant, then by all means, stop by.
You're not going to want to dine-in though. Although there's an air conditioner sitting in the windowsill, it's woefully inadequate to cool the space. You'll be warm. If you stay there longer than 30 minutes, uncomfortably so.
The last time I went in to order I was with a friend from New York City, a man of Dominican descent. The old Asian gentleman behind the cash register was... brisk, and blunt, to put it mildly. I don't know if his demeanor is consistent with all customers, or if it was just us, but I was honestly a little put off by it.
We were both willing to overlook it for the quality of the...
Read moreVery disappointed to have found out Fong's was no longer the same Fong's my family and I had been going to since the 90s. New management is one thing but a new menu/price increase of 30-40% per plate means it is now a different restaraunt entirely. After only ordering the House Special Lo Mein combo for so many years, hearing its no longer and option but a more expensive standalone plate killed my initial impression of the changeover. However, to give credit, the people working in the front were kinder than the recent staff prior, and the overall food quality was still good with the chicken wing combo albeit smaller portion. But it is not Fongs Garden of old, I'd probably be more likely to return if they rebranded to fit their new identity rather than mislead a few generations of families that reminisce on...
