Just overall a very pleasant experience. The lamb coconut korma was probably one of the best things I've ever eaten. I've had good Indian food before, but the place I used to go is a long drive away now. It has been featured on DDD more than once, so it's not just my opinion. I miss being close enough to eat there. But you don't care about other places.
I was hesitant to try a new place for fear it wouldn't measure up, but I think the food here might actually be better, hard as it is to quantify. Delicious, with service to match. I'm not sure how busy they get at peak times, but we were fortunate to arrive at an odd time, and had the restaurant to ourselves. The rice was cooked perfectly and didn't have to be too unique to be a great addition to the meal. The rest of the meal had plenty of flavor, so anything extra with the rice would just be a hat on a hat. Sometimes less is more, and I appreciated it. I love that I could taste the fresh garlic with their garlic naan. It definitely wasn't powdered, granulated, and probably not bottled, so it made all the difference.
When you go to a new restaurant and you ask what's good, then hear that everything is good, it doesn't usually inspire confidence, but in this case, I think I believe it. While the level of heat can never please everyone, I was satisfied with how spicy my food was. Sometimes it's hard to know what restaurants mean when they say something is spicy. I like to think of it as "Utah spicy" versus "actual spicy". Rarely do they mean the same thing. I like a moderate amount of heat, so I went with the medium level and was not disappointed. It wasn't overpowering by any means, as expected from just a medium level of heat, and it wasn't underwhelming either. It was just right, in my opinion. My Mom chose to go with mild heat in her chicken korma this time, and while she said it still had heat, it wasn't as prominent as mine, which she also tasted.
Properly-prepared Indian food has so much flavor, I've found. No exception here. Before I started eating, I tried to identify what I was smelling--it was like a warm hug from your favorite person. Even better when I began eating. I noticed the aftertaste of my meal a while after we left, and I enjoyed it nearly as much as the meal itself. Maybe not everyone would rate it as highly, but that's their prerogative. As for me, I may not go to WVC much, but whenever I'm in the area, Nepali Chulo will likely be my first choice when it comes to food. I'd like to think I'm open to being adventurous when it comes to food, but even if you aren't, I think this place is a...
Read moreEdit: We stopped in again in May 2022. We ordered onion pakora, a bread basket, chicken tikka masala, and the chefs garlic chicken again. If Google would let me I would leave another five star rating. The naan was soft and tender, but full of flavor. The fried onions were crunchy and packed with savory spices. The chutney they came with were perfectly seasoned.
The aloo paratha in the bread basket was a great way to finish off the chutney. The sweet naan was perfect. I'm not a fan of coconut, but the flavor of the sweet naan was so good I didn't care about the coconut. The garlic naan was packed with flavor. I loved it all. I loved it. I'm glad you made it through the pandemic.
Original review: It's a new place, and nowhere near as busy as it should be. The food and service rivaled that of any other Indian or Nepalese establishment in the area. The naan was silky soft and fresh. We tried three flavors and they all had the same quality and base flavor. I think the naan was actually the best I've had in the Salt Lake area.
For my meal I ordered the chicken tikka from the chulo oven. It came out sizzling. The flavor was perfect. The only down I had was that I asked for hot, but it was at best medium. Though I am a white guy so people often don't realize that when I want hot I want spicy. I can take it. Even so, no dock in stars. The food was great. My spouse ordered the chefs garlic special chicken. She let me try it out and It didn't disappoint. It had a tickle the tongue flavor. Our water goblets were always full. Great service.
Give this place a try. It's worth...
Read moreI've been to Nepali Chulo many times, and I've never been disappointed. The service is always attentive and caring, and the food is out of this world. The flavors are so succulent, rich, and flavorful that I can't help but moan in enjoyment the entire time I'm eating. It's truly exquisite!
My favorite dishes are the Tikki Masala, Lamb Curry, and Butter Chicken. The Tikki Masala is a creamy, tomato-based curry with tender chicken tikka. The Lamb Curry is a hearty, flavorful dish with tender lamb chunks in a rich sauce. And the Butter Chicken is a classic dish with succulent, juicy chicken in a creamy, buttery sauce.
I also love the cheese naan and pakora chicken appetizer. The cheese naan is soft and fluffy, and it's perfect for scooping up the curry. The pakora chicken is crispy and flavorful, and it's a great way to start your meal.
If you're looking for a delicious and authentic Nepalese meal, I highly recommend Nepali Chulo. The food is amazing, the service is great, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. You won't be disappointed!
