A truly excellent restaurant in West View. I ordered the golden shwe ji (semolina cake), Pad Thai, tofu fritters, and fresh spring roll. Everything was reasonably priced and had great portions.
The Pad Thai had both shrimp and chicken, which I always appreciate! I asked for the plate without scallions, and they honored that request. The noodles were still warm when I got them and the portion was amazing. Plenty of chicken (a few shrimps, too), but not too much. The sauce was lightly sweet and flavorful. My only criticism would be that there weren't enough peanuts, but that's a minor point.
The two appetizers I got were both great. The roll is filled well with lots of veggies, and it's a great healthy option. The dipping sauce is chunkier than usual, but has a great balance of sweet and savory. The tofu fritters are delightful. Slightly spicy sauce, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. They don't have a strong flavor, but I'd say these chickpea fritters are significantly better than regular tofu fritters.
Finally, I fell in love with the semolina cake. It reminded me of the dessert I had at Spice Island Tea House. The raisins were a nice touch. The portion is fantastic for just $5! Creamy, sweet, soft, and warm. Absolutely perfect.
All in all, I'd return here again when in West View. In fact, I'd recommend going out of your way to drive 30 Minutes if you have to because the food is so good and they have unique menu items! I look forward to more shwe ji and trying some satay, samosas, bread pudding, and...
Read moreWe’d been here before, shortly after Royal Myanmar opened…maybe even twice…and were rather disappointed. But that was then, we’d since heard good things about it, and decided we should try it again. If we were disappointed again, we’d chalk it up to different tastes, and move on.
We were rewarded with a very tasty, very attractive and very generous meal. My soup choice, Ohn-no Kwe Sew (a chicken noodle soup with other items, in a coconut milk broth, including a crispy fried bean and scallions sides, added at my option) was just incredible…and large enough that I probably could have considered my main entreé. Following that was a Spicy Basil Beef dish, which was, at a spice level of 4 out of 10, still too spicy to enjoy the more subtle flavors…and, perhaps compared to the Ohn-no Kwe Sew, just middling. My partner’s sushi looked beautiful, was plentiful and really a good deal.
I will note that the coffee (rather unexpected in an Asian restaurant, at that) was instant, which only was obvious because it was mixed too strong. Having asked, and had confirmed, that it was instant, probably freeze-dried, I’d asked for a bit less strong….and really found it satisfactory (and I like my coffee strong). There are also several kinds of teas offered.
The place is pleasant enough, having apparently had a remodel since we last went. Nothing special, but attractive enough.
This place is almost within walking distance for us. Why we didn’t go back earlier? Well, that’s not going to...

The menu is mostly Burmese, with about five familiar Thai dishes. This feature allows a comparison of Burmese and Thai cooking.
*Whereas Thai tends to be sweet and hot (some places sweeten their food with sugar and overripe canned pineapple), Burmese cooking is NOT artificially sweetened but depends on the natural slight sweet taste of the vegetables.
RECOMMENDATIONS: 🤩🤩🤩 Picked Tea Leaves Salad: Scrumptious textural well balanced vegetables with unique tea leaves. WOW!
🤩 🤩🤩 Crispy Tofu: House made tofu, well seasoned, crispy on the outside, very soft silken n the inside.
🤩🤩🤩 Kone Baung (chicken or pork): Exquisite dish named after a royal Burmese dynasty. Stir fried vegetables, almost a dry sauté with a dash of soy-based sauce.
🤩🤩🤩 Spicy Basil Chicken or Pork or Beef (beef is best): Unsweetened contrast to its Thai cousin, dry sauté with vegetables in a lovely dash of sauce.
🤩🤩🤩Nyat Khaukswe Kyaw Shrimp Noodles: Traditional Burmese flat rice noodles with vegetables.
🤩🤩🤩Vegetable Curry: Very low light green curry, so very light that it can serve as soup… WOW… contrast to its thick Thai cousin.
Service is outstanding. On one occasion, the lovely cook/owner came around for a chat about Burmese culinary...
