:( I'm sad/irritable and leaving hungry today. I had reasonable expectations for this place and was excited to try it after having lived in Martinsburg for a few years now, so I brought my family, table of 4. After reviewing the menu and understanding that this was a steak and seafood place, I decided to try their house burger to get a feel for the place, my wife ordered their crabcakes and sides and my son ordered their Philly cheese steak. I was a little concerned when I was not asked how I liked my $16+ burger cooked and kindly asked the waitress what the norm is and was assured that medium-medium rare was something they could do. When my burger arrived with all of the life and flavor cooked out of it, where nothing but the grease was left, I politely declined to eat anymore and sent it back. My gen-z kid said his cheese steak was Mid, but scarfed it down as 16 year olds do, and asked about the origin of the cheese. My wife's $20 crabcake meal disappointed her because she thought for that price she would get more than one small smashed crabcake.. just because you smash it doesn't increase the volume of food you receive guys, cmon.. The sweet potato that came with it along with the "Marshmallow fluff" add on was literally just a medium sized grocery store sweet potato with those small marshmallows you can buy in the bag thrown on top... Listen my folks didn't raise a complainer but dude, that food at THAT price? Marshmallows thrown on top of that 89 cent sweet potato and a single smooshed crabcake for 20 dollars?! That's unreasonable and absurd.
The salad bar upsell we were offered to see before we were asked whether or not we wanted to purchase it, there were fruit flies or gnats flying all around the food, the covers to all the soups were open, the mac and cheese was burnt over there in the corner looking desperate and all the deserts were gone or uncovered basically besides some chocolate chip cookies. I couldn't bring myself to pay extra just for the cookies and if I'm going to have to battle with nature in my salad I might as well go pick stuff from my yard. I read a review before we went this morning that they had cheesecake, but maybe they were talking about something temporary in the salad bar.. idk. The waitress said their only deserts were in the salad bar for anyone reading.. so there is no confusion.
As far as the atmosphere, don't look up. All of the broken wooden beams in the ceiling have strings of dirt and dust hanging down from them like its Halloween, between that and fighting off the bugs while trying to eat, it just wasn't an appetizing experience. One wrong sneeze and bam you've got ceiling fan levels of dust/dirt on your plate. You know exactly what i'm talking about, whatever you just pictured in your head, yes, that's it.
Now for the good - Our waitress was kind and attentive and doing a good job, so regardless of all of the criticality above we left her a good tip and she was deserving of one.
P.S. - I'm editing this because i'm sitting here hungry, frusterated and still confused, how are we not able to choose the rarity of beef at a steak house? If you can make steak you can make burgers surely? and conversely if that's how my burger turned out, how's...
Read moreToday was a long day, the wife worked 16 hrs for a local cab Company after working 12 for fedex. She came home wanting to eat and she wanted to go to Hoss because I told her it was good. We arrived about 8pm, the parking lot was near empty that was a bad sign. the hostess was a young sweet girl , I even cracked a joke and she took us us to our table keeping mind she seemed to know I had a hard time walking , she sat us close to everything. We sat and ordered n we went to the sald bar, the sald bar was near empty, everything looked like it was left over from the day before. I said something to the hostess n she got right on it, she looked over the sald bar her self and had them fill n top off what needed to be. She was pleasant and fast in doing so. The crew that came out had on no gloves , she added things on top of the old food and did not change out any pans. The other kid he just added stuff the nacho bar on top of the old empty pans that looked to be sitting there for awhile. The food we ordered was hot n cold my chopped steak was hot but my mashed potatoes were Luke warm n had a foul taste to them. With tip we spent 60 dollars, the whole meal was about 53 dollars. We would have been better off going to McDonald's. Another thing when your sitting at there tables be mindful of what you say the staff listens to your conversation I guess they would rather listen to your personal issues rather then do there jobs.
This is by far the worst review I've...
Read moreThis was our first time at this location of Hoss's. We arrived around 8pm on a Friday. It was not full or busy. My husband ordered a steak medium rare, soup and salad bar. I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich with a baked sweet potato.
Due to Covid, you have to get your soup from the waitress. She did not ask which one he wanted when she took the order, or when she brought his salad. He had to wait until she came to tell us our dinner was almost ready to order his soup.
I don't know if the kitchen decided to hold our order until after he finished his soup or they just were not paying attention, but we waited quite a while to get our entrees.
His steak was cooked too long and my steak sandwich was cold. Since my steak sandwich obviously sat waiting for other parts of our dinner to be finished, the roll was falling apart as soon as I picked up the sandwich. My sweet potato was the only thing on my plate the correct temperature.
The waitress offered to get my husband a steak cooked the way he ordered, but we had already waited too long and we wanted to eat.
Our waitress came back to check on us and to say she spoke to the manager and we were not going to be charged for his steak since it didn't meet his expectations. (We had not asked for this, but we weren't going to refuse the offer, either.)
We were very disappointed in the service, the wait time, and the meals not being cooked properly. We aren't...
