Let me start by saying all the people working, especially our server, were really nice, personable, and attentive. The food is a little pricey, I believe to make you think you are getting something great. It's a franchise. Expect that type of quality for an extra price. I had the classic cheeseburger for Like $15 that came with sweet potato fries, which really should have been like $10 given the quality of the definitely not freshly ground pre-made patties with really sad char broiled marks. It tasted like an extra spiced up Dairy Queen Burger. Fries were really extra greasy. The ranch dressing, if made on site, still tasted like it came off a truck in a jug. Funnel cake fries were also extra greasy and left in too long. Came with the tiniest sprinkle of powdered sugar at the edge of two fries and actually made me laugh like it was an accident they decided oh maybe they asked for no sugar. They won't notice that. Lol The young lady who waited on us was awesome in so many ways. Other places should look into cloning her. I tipped her well because she was great, and the food I think will subconsciously, even though higher prices bring the proper gratuity level up a little, the quality might actually bring it down again. So they have to work harder, bringing you out higher priced subpar franchise food with a smile and enthusiasm. Probably in the training handbook. I won't go back. I could tell by everything I had and the quality of the wings my daughter had it's all the same levels of disappointment. $75 with tip. Buh-bye now. Also, I have to throw in what is going on with the outlet plate covers that are in the booths they decided not to use for probably 100 tvs in the place, in every booth as well. Then, with music playing overhead for sound. Why?The plate covers look ratty and painted with scratch marks. Ours actually had the words DIE DIE and LOVE on ours. Look closely at the top of the plate in the...
Read moreThe night that we gathered at this restaurant, I think they were really not prepared to serve a huge group of people mostly on separate tickets. We had all driven or flown in from all over the country, and this was the first time we decided to have our first night’s meal at this restaurant. It had been recommended by our hotel staff, too.
While the menu looked like standardly appealing American sports bar fare, and even featured some gluten-free options, the meals we were served were sub-par to say the best. I don’t even know how long we waited to get our food; my husband says it was almost an hour and a half. His food was cold (it was supposed to be hot), and his burger was amazingly both over cooked and too rare at the same time. My salad was lackluster. In the overwhelm, I couldn’t even try to talk to staff about my food allergies, so I ordered something incredibly plain to eat (which means subtracting possible allergens). I wish I hadn’t ordered anything at all, especially at the price.
I did really feel for the wait staff, and at one point actually imagined the kitchen staff just cringing in horror at having to serve such a large group. Bad days happen in food service; I’ve experienced them from both the kitchen and the customer side. However, big groups are a challenge that most restaurants can rise to and achieve at least a passing standard for fare. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the day or the time for these folks. They did keep on top of drinks and time the arrival of our plates fairly well, but as much of the food at our table was cold, I felt like it must have all sat a while in order to achieve the timing.
I know I won’t be visiting this restaurant again when we come back to WV. For me, it’s mostly because my limited diet doesn’t fit well with the menu on offer, but this experience also made my husband, generally an easily-pleased omnivore, not want to...
Read moreWV 02-2024 The Green Turtle Bar & Grill in Morgantown, Tony & I had dinner with my childhood friend Terrie Clay. We had a few errands run in Morgantown before dinner and decided to grab a quick bite before returning to hotel.
We had been talking about the Green Turtle for a while now and decided to give it a whirl. I have to start by its a little pricey!!! Right off the bat...it definitely could come down a few bucks. The size of the portions does not equal the dollar amount they are asking!!
Tony had the Shrimp Cajun Pasta with bread sticks no side salad nothing for $20. I had the Baja Shrimp Tacos which was $17, it was 2 Tacos loaded down with chips and a very tiny tiny cup of salsa. Terrie got the cheese steak sandwich with fries for $18 and it was like 6 or 8 inches with barely any meat, lots of peppers and barely any fries.. The plates were very underwhelming!!!
The value was just not there!! They are pricing based on their interstate location! The food was okay. I was not crazy about my Tacos. The topping on the slaw was way to sweet. Definitely not enough salsa and way too many chips the salsa chip ratio was extremely way off!!!
Tony liked the pasta, a little dry. Not enough sauce but the sauce was good. It would have been better with either more pasta or a small side salad for the price! $20 was a little much for the portion size
Terrie didn't have much to say about her sandwich one way or the other. The beer cheese tasted like cheese Whiz the type in the jar, nothing special. We might try them again!! A lot of choices in Morgantown!! Terrie and I both had water with lemon and lime while Tony had a few beers! The check was $80 with...
