Let me start by saying my family has been coming here for years (back to my great grandparents generation) and the food has always been consistently good. For the last couple years however the food quality has gone down hill to the point I will never go back.
We ordered sweet and sour chicken combos today for takeout and the chicken in both orders was so overcooked it was barely edible, and that’s not an exaggeration. The coating on most of the pieces was dehydrated and greasy and the chicken inside was so tough and dry, like jerky. It’s clear they had been re-fried at least once or twice before serving it. Absolutely gross!
This isn’t the first time we have had quality issues. It has happened multiple times over the past year or so but never to the degree of the food we received today. One other time we were dining in and the French fries they brought out were dark and completely dehydrated. We told the waitress and she said she has told the cook/owner they can’t keep re-frying them 3 or 4 times. Apparently they must precook their food and throw it back in to ‘reheat’ it. Disgusting, especially when people are paying good money to eat FRESH food. ...

This is a Rhode Island staple, one of the original Chinese restaurants in the state. The atmosphere is salt-of-the-earth and the walls have a history. The prices have always been reasonable and the portions are generous. Their food is the gold standard in which I base all other Chinese food. The nice thing too is that if you find a favorite menu item, you’re guaranteed consistency. Trust me: a family favorite is the veal cutlet dinner. It tastes the same now as it did decades ago, which is perfect if you want to share in memories of good times past.
I hope you have a special place like Hong Kong Restaurant in your life, and if you don’t, perhaps take this review as an invitation to enjoy a meal here and make this place special...
Read moreFirst and last time I come to this place... ordered general tso (can't remember how to spell the word) the sauce that was given was not the right sauce or was disgusting. I took one bite of chicken and immediately regretted it, it was super dry, the sauce looked like black and distasteful, I didn't even try anything else on the plate. The friend I was with asked if they could take the dish off of the bill. They really turned around and said no and that it's my own fault that I don't like it and that it is number 1 seller. Yes they actually refused to take my meal off of my bill they said I had to still pay for half of my meal and full price for my friends meal. Bottom line is I spent 22$ for two people to eat some garbage food and to withstand the absolute most awful service I've ever had in my life!!!! I've been to hundreds of places to eat and this one is hands down the worst...
