My family has been coming to Westerly for over 25 years and at least the past 10 of those years, when all of cousins became of age, we have visited The Andrea on multiple occasions to have some drinks and dine. Yesterday, I was at The Andrea with my four cousins and when we were seated, we read about “The Bucket Club” and decided to partake. If we ordered 5 buckets of beer, we won a t-shirt. There were five of us so, we figured this was an awesome idea.
When we were seated by our hostess and greeted by our server, we were not informed about their supposed “2 hour limit” on table service. I will start there.
About 90 minutes into our dining experience, a couple sat next to us and were eavesdropping while they stared at us and gave us dirty looks while we dined and chatted. We decided to ignore it and enjoy our time together. A few minutes later, they asked to move tables and were denied that request by the server. Not even 5 minutes after that, the manager came over to our table and rudely told us that our “time was up” and that we “had been there for two and a half hours and they had a two hour time limit”. Remember, we were never told that or we would have respected that and dined accordingly. She had every table starring at us because she was so loud and rude so, we were kind of embarrassed.
My advice for the future; The manager should have a team meeting and get all of the “crew members” on the same page about their policies on seating. Patrons should be told before seating about the rules instead of rudely told to leave the establishment. It is very unprofessional to tell a table of five people who bought 5 buckets of beers, multiple appetizers and multiple main courses AS WELL AS multiple “to-go” orders to get up and leave when they hadn’t even finished their meals. We were truly shocked by this behavior and unprofessionalism at a place we have frequented for years and years.
The Andrea, after everything that has happened in the World with the Pandemic, should be overly thankful that people are choosing their place of business to support at these very difficult times. The disrespect we were shown by the manager gets them one star from me and my family. I am adding an extra star for our OUTSTANDING server who took care of us and clearly was uncomfortable with the situation.
I hope no one gets treated the way that we were. I hope The Andrea team does better...
Read moreMy family and I have been to Westerly, RI on a number of occasions, but this time it was just my wife and I. We had been to a couple of other local restaurants, but we had never eaten at The Andrea.
It is still early in the season so there were not many people out and the outdoor tent was still up. There was no legitimate outdoor seating available, which the staff at the host stand was very apologetic about. Side note, we were greeted with smiling faces and what seemed to be incredibly happy employees. Not 2 minutes after being sat did our server come over to greet us to take our drink and appetizer order since we knew before going there what we were getting as an appetizer....the Lobster Bomb. The drinks came out very timely and the Lobster Bomb, which was absolutely amazing, came out no more than 5 minutes later. We had ordered our meal when our drinks came out, and the food was out in about 12 minutes.
I ordered the tuna steak medium with coleslaw as a substitution for the green beans (I hate green beans) with an additional seafood cake and my wife ordered the lobster roll. When the food came out, my order had green beans on it. I mentioned it to the food runner, and he right away apologized and brought it back to the kitchen. It would not have been a big deal if they just brought me out a side of coleslaw, but they re-plated the whole thing. The dish looked just as immaculate and pleasing to the eye as if it had originally been served like that. The food was amazing and every bite was something to be savored.
The only area I would suggest a minor improvement in would be the drinks. They came out really strong and for the most part, that was primarily what you tasted. Of course I still drank them, because why not?
It seemed like most of the front of house staff were younger, but not in any way did that take away from the attentiveness, professionalism, and great customer service they displayed. Unlike a pretty bad experience we had with a place up the road, The Andrea was the perfect place to drink and dine right on the beach.
Thank you to our server Rachel (sorry if that isn't how you spell your name) and the rest of The Andrea staff. We look forward to dining...
Read moreReally want to like this place but... perhaps they have gotten too comfortable with past success. The spot is gorgeous. We have been there several times and the staff has been pleasant enough, food has been decent enough but never been wow'ed but again, the spot is gorgeous and because of its location, it's busy. You have to take those things into consideration when you assess the quality of food and service. This last visit may be our last. It was too busy, we were seated right away with no wait. Placed appetizer order. Calamari was SO over cooked, like rubber. My 9 yr old who loves calamari couldn't even chew it. Garlic butter mussels were loaded with hot pepper which the menu made no mention of (FYI, my husband is allergic to hot pepper) luckily it was so visible he was able to avoid with no issue. I however, ate them. Taste was decent if you like spicy but they were so sandy I had to spit 4 or 5 of them out. Our main course took 45 minutes to come out. We sat near the kitchen and there was a steady flow of waitresses bring out food out regularly but our waitress had disappeared. We flagged down a different waitress who was friendly and apologized saying the "kitchen was a little backed up". Finally our waitress came back and said our meals should be out soon but seemed thoroughly annoyed to have to come see us. Our food came and it was COLD!?!? Fish and chips, fish was cold inside the batter. Shrimp tacos, shrimp not even cooked, still gray inside. Baked scrod, only thing warm was the fish inside it's own casserole dish. The mashed potatoes had sat on the plate long enough to have that film over the top of them? I do not mind waiting 45 minutes for food at a busy summer beach spot but if the kitchen is "backed up" then shouldn't my food come out hot?! Like, the food should be flying out the kitchen as soon as it's ready, no? Unless of course the waitress simply forgets all about you?? Sad, great spot but maybe is better suited to the drinking crowd who has less discerning...
