It was amazing before it even began...
I called a week prior to my stay, to find myself on the phone with a professional and kind gentleman named Patrick. I had so many questions, and I was filled with excitement, and he was able to answer each and every one. I knew after hanging up the phone that this was going to be an amazing trip, I felt so at ease and knew it was the perfect choice. We were so excited the morning of our trip that we left super early, and on the way there I called to ask for an early arrival. Darlene answered the phone, and automatically it was a genuine yes... I think I even drove faster. When we arrived me met Darlene, she communicated that she complimentary upgraded us to an ocean front room. Being in the same hospitality field, it felt good being on the other end of it, and it truly does make a difference- the little acts of kindness- She then introduced me to the owner, John, who went out of his way to stop what he was doing to take the time to say hello. It was so heartfelt. We then went up to our room to see the beautiful little touches, the attention to detail was on point, the beds were super cozy and the room was immaculate. While we were walking down the hallway, we were greeted by smiles and hellos from the housekeeping staff. We then went downstairs to head out to the beach, and made a quick stop at the complimentary pantry- which was stocked with everything imaginable; from the expresso machine to all the snacks, there is something for everyone. We were also able to grab beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, etc. Love the fact that this hotel doesn't have a formal front desk, the staff is always around when you need them. Coming back from the beach we made dinner reservations, and were super excited about the dining options. The pasta was home-made and everything was cooked to order, being a former food and beverage director, I know that food was perfect in every way. Every time I took a sip of water, my glass was refilled; they served lovely bread with Italian dipping oil w/ olives- what a great touch. We decided after dinner to relax and stay in. My daughter wasn't feeling well and Patrick was right there with Uno and fuzzy robes and had the goody- cart come by. It immediately brought a smile to her face. The next morning I woke up very early, and was able to meet the night audit/frontdesk, Brighton, who was smiling and chipper at 5 in the morning. He was able to 'BRIGHTON' my day! My daughter and I just hung out during the day after a great breakfast of pancakes, they even have sugar free syrup! In the evening we ordered pizza from the restaurant, which was perfectly cooked, and Patrick delivered it to our room with his smiling face. The next day came all too soon, and we headed down to take a 5:30am sunrise bike ride. We then were greeted by Kevin who was extremely knowledgeable about the property, it was like a mini tour, when then headed out and said our farewells to everyone at the front desk. And it was the best weekend ever! I hope sharing my long detailed story will shed a little light on The Hotel Maria, I've been to a lot of places and by far this is the best. A huge shoutout to all the staff at this hotel, we hope to see you all...
Read moreThe Hotel Maria provided an excellent August weekend getaway featuring pristine rooms, a solid dining experience, and friendly service. The trip exceeded all expectations.
My wife--better traveled than I--felt the hotel offered a very "European" experience which seems to translate as an exceptionally clean establishment, pleasant common areas, and an airy feel to the environment (obviously suitable for a beach resort). The people working at The Hotel Maria seem to be happy and are all engaging.
The hotel is across-the-street from the beach (the road wasn't busy and cars were slow) and you can obtain chairs, umbrellas, and towels. The beach itself is somewhat private but does get busy (somewhat private meaning its not gated/people could wander onto it) but not rowdy.
We enjoyed dining--open year round--at the hotel and had dinner one night in their 4th floor area (you do pay a higher rate to eat up there but its quite pleasant). Note that reservations fill up quickly.
Near the hotel are an ice cream shop, beach stores, and a few beach bars. Its a pleasant place, but there really isn't much to see/do in walking distance. It is a good area to ride bikes or go running, but you may want/need your car to get to other activities.
I'd stay at the Hotel Maria again--its a great place--and really impressed me. Whatever builder finished the hotel did a fantastic job. It may sound silly to call this out, but the trim work, painting, and overall quality of the hotel is five star. The cleaning team does great work too - given all the people entering the hotel (and sand) its spotless. My room was also quiet (doors and walls are solid).
I think kids would be fine here--especially if they love the beach--but just keep in mind many of the attractions in the area need a...
Read moreThe Hotel Maria is a beautiful hotel right across from the ocean, so it's a super easy walk across the street to a pristine beach! The hotel allows guests to check out really comfortable beach chairs and towels to use for the day, so no need to lug additional beach gear on vacation.
The beach did get pretty crowded on weekend days and I think some non-hotel guests were encroaching on the private beach, which is adjacent to a public-access beach.
We were there over Labor Day weekend 2023.
My family and I stayed in a suite at the back of the hotel with an awesome ocean view from the balcony. We could also see the view of the bay in the other direction. Guest service was excellent and the onsite restaurant was delicious. I liked the guest snack bar, which even included sparkling wine upon request.
I'd definitely stay here again and highly recommend the Hotel Maria!
As an EV (Tesla) owner, my only complaint is that when the hotel restaurant and parking lot got really crowded on weekend nights, non-EVs often parked in the one spot clearly marked as reserved for EVs—next to the Tesla destination charger (also a great feature of the hotel).
I'd recommend that the hotel valets not park non-EVs in this spot (if they're doing that?) and that the hotel invest in at least one more Tesla charger, as I wasn't the only Tesla driver there during my stay. It wasn't too big of an issue, as I was able to charge enough when needed, but always frustrating when non-EVs park where...
