Saturday Breakfast visits. We just missed the rush at 915am. Great diner with many special qualities. The small but private parking lot, with overflow in the municipal lot, alleviated the limited street parking worry. Everything was neat and clean. They have an outdoor patio seating, which was tented for winter weather. They began heating this area as we were leaving, to accommodate a second rush of customers. Other diners offered favorite menu items, and no bewares. Our server Karen was warm and friendly, with great menu knowledge, and suggestions. Our food arrived timely, and correct. Missing that 5th star because It's a great diner, but everything is not perfect. There's a table near the soda machine that is kind of loud for conversation. The food was abundant, and delightful. The grits were having a good day. Grits are temperamental. Just ask, and they will tell you. There's no shortage of potatoes. My coffee never touched bottom. The window seating is a nice spot, but a little cooler in the winter. I must say that "Fruit Topping" on items does not mean compote. It is just fresh cut fruit. Plenty of friendly check backs. I saw many pie choices from "Just Pies" local biz, including a Grille signature recipe. Restrooms were not evaluated. Look forward to dining again at other times, to ADD THE OTHER STAR.
I have since returned on several occasions to the same good diner food, and service. I did have a corned beef hash. No they do not dump it out of a can. They do however use their homemade corned beef. Grilled, mixed, seasoned, and worth a try. They have daily specials which now include 3 hash’s(see pics) I’ve tried here. I would prefer more seasoning, but that would not please everyone. Omelettes(see pic) are stuffed. Pancakes(see pic) are huge and light. If you add blueberries or chocolate chips, you are going to be ecstatic at the abundance. LOL the blueberries were so juicy that they squirted onto the front window. Great staff, and great breakfast menu. See more pics at...
Read moreVery small restaurant, but does have outside seating about equal to inside seating. They will only seat a two person party at a two person table. We went in one hour before closing And were the only customers, other than one table. We were told we could not sit at a four person table even though there was nobody there and they were closing soon. Two other people came in after us that evidently knew our waitress and she let them sit at a four person table. It's not like this is a big deal, but with 2 persons meals, plus drinks, plus condiments, you run out of room real fast on the little tables. Unfortunately this is a day where it's 50゚ and raining in June, and they had the air conditioning blaring cold. It was freezing in there.. There was also a lot of trash on the floor.
According to our receipt, our waitress's name was Jessica. She was friendly and attentive. We had the turkey club and the meat loaf sandwich, both with onion rings. It was all good. The meatloaf sandwich could have been better. It's plain meatloaf with no sauce on it. But you can add your own salt and ketchup at the table. If they basted it with some barbecue sauce on it and grilled onions, I bet it would be delicious.
We will likely order from here again as there were other things on the menu we wanted to try. But I would imagine we'll just do carry out and not dine in. The whole dining experience here (other than the friendliness of our waitress), is pretty low...
Read moreI ordered the Westerville omelet, sans mushrooms. The omelet is supposed to be with ham, onions, tomatoes, green peppers and cheese. What I was served instead was full of spinach which I like as a side vegetable but not in an omelet. I tried to separate the spinach from everything else but it was virtually impossible. The waitress looked at my plate but didn't say anything. We did not speak to her again until she brought our check. I said maybe I ordered the wrong thing. All she said was have a nice weekend. Our bill was $26.00, half of it was for something I couldn't eat. I waitressed for several years in my younger days. A good waitress would have noticed the spinach was scraped out of the omelet, or at the very least asked did I like my meal. She did none of those things. If she had come back to our table I would have told her I didn't get what I ordered. Our check indicated I HAD indeed ordered the Westerville omelet. I took the time to check the menu, no spinach. If the restaurant had been packed I might have understood the mistake. Lots of empty tables, which brings me to another complaint. Plenty of empty tables but we were told to sit at a table for two. We like the extra room in a larger table whenever possible. We saw a lone woman at a table for four. I'm done ranting but I believe we will go to Delaney's which is also in...
