I have to admit I had higher expectations for Bub's in Westfield based on the original Bub's in Carmel. I have to say that the Westfield location doesn't seem to be as similar as I though it would be. I did not like this location and I won't go back anytime soon.
The employees were great. Very friendly, courteous employees. Everybody was trying to make customer's experiences good. I have no complaints about the employees because their service was above average.
The style of service is work-a-rant to quote a national restaurant chain. You order at the counter, pay, get your drink, go sit down. They give you a "pager" to notify you that your meal is ready. You walk back up to the counter and carry your food back to the table. Then, when you are done you throw away the trash and put the metal pie plate style bowl/plate above the trash receptacle.
The amount of time to make your food is not terrible but is longer than other burger joints. (I would not care a bit about the wait if it wasn't so much a work-a-rant.)
The restaurant was clean and well lit. Lighting seemed appropriate for the place.
(this is my biggest complaint about eating in at this location.) I'm not normally a stickler on seating, but the seating is unusual here. I found the seating to be horrible. Plywood boxes (cubes) instead of chairs. Super uncomfortable-no padding on the cubes, and no back rest. The booths were also plywood without any padding in the seat, but the booth seats do have a back rest. I get it, these are cheap and who cares if somebody spills something or if something gets broken--but hey I have stood and eaten food at a convention and thought it was more comfortable.
The burger patty tasted great. In fact the sandwich was very good tasting, but the bun was hard like a gluten free bun. I don't think it was gluten free, though. However, I also didn't think the burger was like the burgers I've had at the Carmel location. Now, let me say, it has been a while since I ate at the Carmel restaurant--so maybe that has changed. I'm honestly not sure.
The iced tea was very good. The vanilla malt was very good.
The crinkle cut fries were okay. Sprinkled with season salt, very crunchy. Maybe a bit too much salt. They got cold fast. I think the metal plate helped speed the cooling down.
Lastly, the price did not seem to match up well with the service and food. We got 1 double burger, 1 single, 1 order of crinkle cut fries, 1 tea, 1 vanilla malt. The price was almost $26 for 2 people. That's about $10 more than similar at Burger King. I compare to burger king because the service is similar and the food was only slightly better. Better beef for sure, but the bun was aweful.
I would recommend, as a customer, that Bub's consider bringing the food to the table. There was a worker waiting at the counter with my meal anyway. I'd hate to bring kids here and have to juggle kids and plates of food.
I'd also suggest at the least replacing the uncomfortable cubes with some chairs or stools or add padding to the cubes. I think if you have flat hard plywood to sit on, then you should think about padding the seats. Moulded seating would not require padding as desperately as these seats.
Finally, I recommend stop using the metal pie dishes for serving. The french fries got cold in just a few minutes and I think the plate was a large part of that. I do at least appreciate using actual dishes that can be reused instead of wasteful paper trays, plates, wraps, etc for...
Read moreMany of us are familiar with the Bub's Burgers on the Monon in Carmel. Their Big Ugly is legendary. This location is more of a retooling of the established Bub's. The look and feel is stainless steel, colorfully washed wood paneling, black pipe legged tables, and decorative pieces constructed to resemble pallets.
The food has been reduced down to a selection of burgers, hot dogs, salads, and milk shakes. Instead of increasingly larger patties, you choose single, double, or triple stacks. All the normal toppings are available, including bacon but at an added cost. Fries are a classic crinkle for maximum ketchup retention and delivery. Kid options include mini burgers and a grilled cheese. We bought a hot dog which could have easily fed both our kids, each under 5.
The burger was well made, at time of order, as well as the fries. Everything came out hot and well prepared. My only complaint is the burger was heavily seasoned. Since this is a personal preference, I do not see it as a negative. Next time I will request light or no seasoning.
The milkshake bar is a nice touch. Shakes are blended right there and served nicely. For those with less of a sweet tooth, two types of Sun King were on tap. All in all, this place is a winner. With the ever increasing number of quick, gourmet style, burger joints growing in our area, it is nice to see a family owned operation holding their own and beating the competition with great service and...
Read moreIt's not the Bub's you know and love. The place was pretty much empty, I placed my order on the app but when I arrived nobody thought to ask if I needed anything and the was an older couple deciding what to get in front of me, a young kid at a table waiting on a to go order and the only person working was at the grill and running back and forth to ther kitchen until a young girl showed up. At some point a woman came to the counter and I interrupted just enough to ask where I pick up my now cold order. She asked the young girl to grab it from the microwave. I did ask for fresh fries and they made them but then I got up the car and they hadn't put any sauce on my burger... The biggest issue I had though was hygiene- straight up poor hygiene. The guy doing the grill and fries was running around touching everything then smooshing stuff into burgers on the grill, touching the counters and the kitchen door with the palm side of his hand, that just touched raw meat and other stuff. When the woman came out I reached my limit and had to say something because he bent over and tied his shoe then fixed his pant leg. She told him to change his gloves then added that he needed to wash his hands first. I really wanted to love it! I may give it another try??? For now I'll stick to...
