King of Basturma — Restaurant in Westland

I have never had Basturma. To be honest I've never heard of Basturma. But while I'm Michigan I had to visit this deli due to many of my friends and families advice. So we went. We looked around for a few minutes and a friend asked the butcher to try some Basturma. He immediately obliged. Grabbed the red log of meat and let us all try it. It's good.

It's a cured and salted beef seasoned with Çemen. Çemen is a made from a paste of ground fenugreek seeds, chili powder and mashed garlic. Some people described it as a salty taste but to me it had a kind of spicy black pepper taste. You should try it as soon as you can.

They had other meats there and freezers full of treats and drinks. I don't know if who we dealt with was the owner or not but he knew what was talking about and had a moustache that would incite jealousy. If you live in the area visit this place immediately. If not, it's worth the trip. I also felt like it was really clean. They also had tables with flowers so you can eat and relax. Parking was adequate and we had no wait times while we were there. My husband and I went in and had never been here before. We were treated to a small spinach pie to try and it was so delicious, even cold right out of the case! We had a conversation with another customer and he spoke about how great everything there was and HE was happy he came in because he doesn't ever want this place to leave- and neither do we now!!!! We were treated so kindly and ended up taking a sampling home with us and fresh baklava too. It was all delicious. We shared with our neighbors who will now be going in to pick up items as well. There is also a restaurant menu that has all of your staples, Fattoush, kibbeh, shawarma, falafel, soup, hummus, etc...and you can call ahead to pick up or eat there at one of 2 tables they have .
