I arrived around 4:30 before it got busy, there was only one table seated at the time. The waiter sat me at a booth where the sun was shining right in my face so I moved. I APOLOGIZED and told him the sun was shining in my eyes, he got an attitude even though there was only one other table seated. I sat for 10 - 15 minutes watching the guy and a waitress talk while he ate (it's unusual that wait-staff eat in front of customers). I waited for him to finish eating and went up to the bar but both ran off before I reached the bar. Finally the waitress walked toward me, to get her attention I asked "excuse me, can I order a drink?" Her response was a very rude "go sit down" - her tone would normally have been enough for me to leave, but I was waiting for someone and she loves the Bloody Marys there. I sat. she finally came over and rudely asked what I wanted. By this time, I was very unhappy. When my friend arrived she ordered her drink. It didn't have the usual tasty red salted rim or garnishments. So my friend asked for a salted rim glass. She received just regular salt. The waitress was SO rude I was sure she was not going to be waiting on us for the rest of the evening. She did. She tried to be nice after that her "go sit down" demand but it was completely disingenuous and TOO LATE. I RARELY leave zero tip, but I was not about to tip someone for such rude behavior. That's where their money comes from so at least try to be friendly. The only reason they are getting two stars is because the food is pretty good. WORST....
Read moreWe moved here about 2 years ago and we have had quite the time finding a Mexican restaurant that checks all the boxes of our favorite restaurant in our previous city. It had to have complimentary chips and salsa, it had to have booths instead of tables, it had to serve alcohol (specifically margaritas), and, of course, it had to have fabulous food. Believe it or not, with as many Mexican restaurants as there are to choose from in Denver, we weren't having much luck.
That is until we finally tried Ana's. And, get this....it's only a few miles from our house!
Parking is a bit of a challenge, mainly because there are a lot of other popular restaurants in the same area. We went early so we would have an easy time getting a table.....or so we thought. The place was packed at 5 pm. Weird. Ironically, we only waited about 5-10 minutes for a booth. However, one big issue: there is nowhere for people to wait so as we were having dinner, people will filling up the restaurant and were standing directly beside our booth. Awkward.
Complimentary chips and salsa...check. Delicious margaritas....check. And, fab food? Check. Check. Check.
Love that they have refried beans, love that their rice has nothing added to it. The enchilada was small but good, the tamale was decent, and the taco was yummy. Then, we ended our meal with fried ice cream. All in all, we rolled out of there with our bellies full and happy that we might have found our "go to"...
Read moreI had lunch with my husband here on a Friday mid afternoon. My experience was kind of disappointing.
When we arrived, it was not busy. Maybe 2 or 3 other tables occupied. Staff looked kind of bored. We were seated immediately. We both ordered beers. I ordered the 3 taco plate (chicken) and he ordered the #14 (taco, burrito, enchilada). The food came out in maybe 5 minutes, which was a little surprising, but in retrospect makes sense as it's not very good. Bland, boring, not enough salt or spices. It's Mexican food for white people from the midwest who think pepper is spicy. It wasn't bad, to be fair. It hit the spot and left us full. But seeing a 4.6 star rating, I expected it to be more like Dos Santos in Denver, or Rio Grande in Boulder. Not even close.
Also, our beers never came out. We ate our whole meal and still nothing. I asked the waitress, who didn't even offer an apology. At least she didn't add them to our bill.
The one thing this place does right is the salsa and chips. Those things were fresh as heck and the salsa was the only part of our experience that tasted even remotely authentic.
The service was poor too. Despite being super empty, it took us almost 30 minutes to have our plates bused, and another 15 to process payment on my credit card. No idea why. A word that comes to mind is, inattentive.
Overall, not super impressed and probably won't be back. Save your money...
