I’ve visited Com Tam Thanh a couple times with family, and it’s become one of our go-to spots for Vietnamese broken rice. While it doesn’t quite reach the level of the best I’ve had in Vietnam, it’s still very solid by Little Saigon standards, especially for a casual meal.
I usually order the Cơm Tấm Sườn, Chả, Nem, Tàu Hủ Kỳ, and the combination is well-executed. The grilled pork chop (sườn) is flavorful with a light char and tender texture. The egg meatloaf (chả) is moist and seasoned just right. The shrimp paste wrapped in bean curd (tàu hủ kỳ) adds a crispy contrast, and the nem (cured pork roll) has good balance without being overly tangy.
The rice is cooked just right — fluffy but firm enough to support the toppings — and their fish sauce is balanced, not too sweet or diluted. Sides like pickled veggies, lime, and jalapeños are a nice touch for those who want to adjust the heat and acidity.
The atmosphere is simple and clean, and service is efficient. It’s a typical Vietnamese eatery setup — not fancy, but focused on food and speed. Prices are very reasonable for the portion (we usually spend about $10–$20 per person), and the dining room is kept tidy and well-run even during lunch rushes.
Overall: 4.5/5. Not the most refined experience, but very dependable. For anyone craving a solid plate of com tấm with variety and flavor, this...
Read moreSummary: This restaurant has been here for as long as I can remember. Every time I sat down, it bring back memories. I remember how when I was just a 'chubby wubby litto' kid, I would get impatient very easily and start bouncing around and bangs silverware together but once I saw the waitress holding a plate of Broken Rice with Pork Chip Hot off the sauce pan and an extra Sunny Side Up, you can see a halo on my head shining brighter than your teeth.
Food: I still have the tendency to always order the same thing. Broken Rice with Grilled Pork Chop, one Sunny Side Up on the side and a glass of Soybean over ice, all under $8.00.
Service: I never have high expectation when it comes to services located within this city. Growing up in the area, I should know better than to judge the restaurant by their service. As long as they are NOT rude and the quality of food is to my standard, I'll keep quiet.
Overall: 8 bucks for a decent meal and a cold beverage is consider a great bargain especially when the portion size is more then I...
Read moreWe ordered a broken rice dish and a vermicelli noodle dish.
The broken rice dish was the com Tâm- got the pork with it, along with pork floss and the quiche-like side. I liked how fluffy and buttery the rice and the pork floss was. The pork was good too - sometimes other places would have too much fat on the pork, that it's not enjoyable to eat - but it was amazing here.
The egg/quiche was ok- great complement to the dish but something was missing.
We really liked how the egg roll in the vermicelli dish was cooked. The beef in this bowl was flavorful.
Both dishes were pretty generous in size. Reasonable pricing as well during these times too
It's a simple restaurant with little decor. The staff welcomed us right away when we entered. Everyone we encountered were nice...
