Ciel Dessert — Restaurant in Westwood

Absolute worst customer service. Went there for the first time with a few friends and we all have young kids. We came prepared with snacks/entertainment for them and all the kids were perfectly behaved. Owner comes up to us and says sorry no outside food, to which we were shocked. Never have we ever experienced anyone telling us baby food isn’t allowed, which by the way is against the law. Any parent is legally allowed to feed their child on any premises that they are allowed to be in. We asked does his menu offer child friendly options and it did not. A sign in front claimed they baked fresh croissants daily so we said let’s get those for the kids and we were told that they didn’t have any because “they take too long to make”. He said to let this be a warning for the future. Then he proceeds to open the door wide open, to air out our smelly food in 40 degree weather. It was freezing and we have young kids with us. Then we proceed to order. Each person got a coffee and dessert, I asked only for a coffee. The guy taking the order just stares. I asked is there something wrong. He says you have to order something else it’s a minimum of two orders per person. I asked him where it said that in writing and of course he had no answer. We ate and drank as fast as we could and got the heck out of there. Will never ever return, such horrible service. And we were the only people in there!! The...

Like others have mentioned, the staff is extermly judgmentall. I came in with a part of three after going to a nearby reasturant for dessert. I told the hostess that we will be sharing a dessert, and two of us would have coffees. We sat down and ordered. Shortly after, the owner came out and told us that this was a reasturant and not a cafe. If we wanted to stay we would have to each purchase two items. Now, we ordered one cake to share and two beverages. We expected to order more pastries after the first one depending on how full we were.

Based on other reviews I mentioned, others have come for sharing as well. I don't know why we were asked to leave mll. Maybe it was because we looked young or maybe it simply was because the owner is really cheap and didn't want to get the espresso machine going when we were the only people there. However, because we were simply asked to leave, I got up and left without saying anything.

Now, I have been to Sook Pastry, Antoinette Boulangerie, and other much fancier and expensive locations in both NJ and NY. If this place thinks that they are superior to literally any other location, I think they really need a reality check since their entire resturant is empty as it was at 4pm on a Saturday. I would highly recommend...

I am a local and have been making an effort to explore every bakery and dessert place that is in Bergen County. I fell in love with Cafe Trios in Northvale and looked forward to exploring each pastry at Ciel Dessert as well. Unfortunately, upon walking in and checking into Yelp, I was yelled at by the woman across the counter. She yelled at me, "No Pictures!" I was checking into Yelp and told her that and she responded, "No Pictures!"

I immediately grew concerned about why she didn't want pictures of the desserts to be taken. She refused to say anything to me other than "No Pictures!" So I decided to leave...never to return again.

This place is super unfriendly and not worth the random rudeness. Perhaps their primary business isn't dessert making because they didn't seem to care about making me (a potentially new customer)...
