First impressions are very important and long lasting. And since my first impression with this restaurant was not great this will be my last time eating here.
I made a reservation for a party of 5. We arrived promptly and was seated in the very last booth in the back of the restaurant. After waiting for about 15 minutes I got up to search for our very young server came to take our beverage order. After our drinks arrived we ordered. We were told their computer was down and we needed to fill out the sheets. Fine. We had one in our party that only wanted soup not the BBQ. We were told that because she wanted only soup everyone else would have to pay the additional $5.00 even if we only wanted BBQ. She felt badly the rest of us would have to pay more so she didn’t eat anything. The rest of us ordered the BBQ. The food was good definitely not fantastic by any stretch. The service was horrible. I must have gotten up 4 times looking for our server to ask for items. I asked him for rice, three times. He never checked on us to ask if we needed anything. We needed butter, napkins and our hot plate replaced. I finally had to get up again to find him for our bill so we could pay. When he came back with our bill he told us that their Credit Card machine was down. We had three options…1. Pay with cash 2. Walk to the nearest ATM to take out money 3. Write down our CC info and they would run it later. This was the icing on the cake. They never told us that their CC machine was down because had they told is that from the beginning and since my friend only wanted soup, we would have gone somewhere else. I was not happy and I told them so. They did nothing to make this right with us. I have been a server in the past and the customer should never leave disappointed over the service or their issues with payment devices. Overall we were very disappointed in their lack of communication and service and we will...
Read moreOn October 20th, around 7 pm, we visited Hungry Pot in Wethersfield, CT for the first time. Let's address the negative aspects of our experience. As we were ordering various meats and grilling a side of potatoes, the grill became very smoky. Initially, we didn't think much of it, assuming it was similar to other grills. However, when we removed the potatoes and began grilling the meat, the waiter took the opportunity to switch the grill top. To our surprise, neither the waiter nor us were aware that there was residual oil in the base from the previous customers. The combination of this oil, water from the potatoes, and the heat led to our grill top bursting into flames, attracting the attention of everyone in the restaurant as it filled with smoke.
The manager quickly approached the situation. Initially, the manager accused the employee for not handling the grill switch correctly but also seemed to subtly accuse us of causing the flames. The manager eventually apologized after realizing that we were both embarrassed and annoyed by the shared blame. As someone overseeing the establishment, it should be a priority to ensure that the grill station is properly cleaned and prepared for the next customer, especially when the previous customer used oil instead of butter. It is not the customer's responsibility to ensure that the station meets safety standards.
We were then relocated to another station where the manager apologized numerous times and took over the cooking process. Although the initial offer seemed generous, over the course of her cooking our meal, she didn't appear to be comfortable leaving us alone with the grill. As a result, she cooked the rest of our meal, which made us feel somewhat responsible for the grill incident.
Despite this experience, the waitress was very accommodating and friendly, and the food was quite good despite...
Read moreAte here a few weeks ago solely based on the review score, which I now think is rigged somehow. Based on what we experienced, it is far too high.
Immediately upon walking up to the entrance, there was an employee smoking cigarettes close enough to the door for the scent to waft inside. Once we got in, we noticed a industrial fan sitting on a seat that looked like it was for customers, and a large bucket of dirty water next to it.
The staff, all on their phones, shot us an interesting glance, and then one of them seated us. We told the waitress it was our first time at Hungry Pot, which she then gave us a mile-a-minute speech and when a family member asked a question, she didnt answer it.
Once we had received some drinks, I asked for plates and napkins, which are normal things on tables at restaurants. She proceeded to tell us they were up at the buffet bar. When I looked around, our table was the only one that didnt have plates or napkins :/
From there, it only got worse. the waitress almost tripped and fell on the huge cord running along the floor. the person who brought us our food rammed the cart into the table super hard, said nothing the floor was filthy with old food everywhere this pains me the most, we were asked to cook our food with individual BUTTER PACKETS last but not least, the men's room had a baby changing station - that was not assembled. just sitting there in its original box
This place nearly ruined hot pot for us all, but now we know KPot is the only place to go for a good time that's...
