As everyone in the area knows Highland Park has some of the best sushi in Illinois.

My wife and I found this lil joint about 2 years ago after a doctor's appointment.

We decided to stop in because my wife was on a sushi kick and I love sushi..

They have a daily lunch special, but we didn't know that... We made our way in and were met with a kind staff and a small, dimly lit dining room.

We didn't expect much, tbh, we just wanted sushi.. we placed our order off their lunch special with was a pick 3 for 13.99 and a pick 1 for 12.99....

We got the Spicy Salmon, Philly, Sweet potato, and the Holy Crab Roll.....

We received a Miso soup with our order and it was a pleasant and simple soup.

Just before we finished our soup out rolls came out, we got to work and each roll was better than the next.

We finished and were happily full, we expressed our love for the location and ambiance to our server and were given our check...

The total came out to 32.00......

If you know sushi you know that 32.00 for four fill rolls is an absolute steal, and most of the time 4 rolls at 32.00 are sub optimal....

Not here!!!!!!

Hakuya has incredible lunch prices and incredible sushi.

There sushi is so good that when my wife gave birth, she didn't want anything else to eat.

Unfortunately they were closed, but we have been back several times since.

If you have the chance don't hesitate, I wouldn't review if I wasn't...

This is my 5th times having some type of issue with this place. Their staff is unprofessional, rude & cant follow directions especially when you give specific instructions of no specific ingredients due to allergies. Then the whole staff wanna give you the run around with call here call there call the owner that never picks up your call not responding to your txt messages after clearly telling you to txt him (very unprofessional). Gave this place another try after a prior dine in issue of waiting 45 minutes for 3 sushi rolls with a request of no spicy Mayo AGAIN after I repeated to the waitress 6 times no spicy Mayo. Placed my order online through their website WITH instructions & again they mess up my order called the place the staff member was rude, unprofessional & careless told me to contact the owner I did the owner did not bother to resolve an issue. Called back the next day got the run around again. Moral of the story is lost a customer that comes in every other week for lack of professionalism. I will never go back to this place even if it was the last sushi restaurant

Hire staff that are customer service oriented & not incompetent...

This place has amazing sushi, super fresh and always tasty . They are also pretty big rolls . Between two people and “average “hunger , 3 rolls is more than enough .. they also have some of the best beef teriyaki I’ve had the pleasure to taste The miso soup they serve is also incredible !! The one reason I rate 4 out of 5 stars is because the last time I went it was “approaching” closing time which was 9pm that night . It was barely past 8pm when our server pretty much let us know as soon as we were greeted that they were closing in 45 minutes , so we’re sat and every single time she comes to the table keeps reminding us . Literally 8:45 has rolled around and comes to say they’re closing in 5 minutes . Implying they actually close at 8:50? Lol anyway we just felt it was a little annoying to be pressured from the get go . We weren’t even planning on having an extensive giant meal cause we ended up being served quickly and done by 8:40 so it wasn’t a massive deal , we did however had a beer that felt the constant pressure to finish and get out . Other than that the service is always great and attentive , highly recommend this place to...

Overall a decent experience, but not sure I'll be returning. First of all, when I walked in it was fairly crowded, but none of the patrons were Japanese. Considering this is the NW Suburbs and there is a sizable Japanese population in the area, this wasn't a good sign. Next, I noticed the menu had both Korean and Japanese cuisine on it, which is something I never understand as these are two separate cuisines and two separate cultures and unless you're running a Pan-Asian restaurant there is really no reason why both should be on the menu. Atmosphere was pleasant and inviting with lots of wood and booths that are almost like small rooms. Service was friendly and approachable, though timing was a bit off. However, the sushi itself wasn't overly impressive. I'm not saying it was bad, it just wasn't very exciting. Both quality and technique were average. Certainly edible and, at times fun (the Dragon roll was rather enjoyable), but far from what it could be.

Absolutely recommend! Smaller spot but was convenient, available (Saturday ~6.30pm without reservations), everything was delicious with a large array of options, and the service was really great too everyone was super nice. We were super hungry so we ordered quite a bit: the shrimp tempura, the Bibimbap shrimp and beef dishes, and the chicken with shrimp fried rice. We also got a miso soup which was fantastic (we couldn't find on the menu, but our waiter asked if we would like it). We had come here a couple of years ago while dating and now accidentally ended up back here married, still just as delicious! We never tried the Bibimbap before and decided to go different & highly recommend (picture = pre- mixed)!!!! It comes with a little sauce on the side which we weren't sure what it was but it has to be added to the dish and mixed. It was sooooooo good. I took half home and ended up eating the rest at home 🤭.

The fancy incandescent bulbs for mood lighting don't do sushi in this picture and justice. It was probably some of the best Sushi I've had in the Chicago area. The rolls are over sized. Normally when you order a tuna roll at other places it has tiny pieces of tuna in it the thickness of a pencil, the tuna in our roll was easily double or triple that size. The avocado roll had huge pieces of avocado as well. The specialty rolls were amazing and all the rolls were much larger then I've seen at any other sushi place. We stopped in for their lunch hour and ordered off the menu and were pleasantly surprised to find out that miso soup, salad and edamame were all free with the order. Service was great and we left stuffed for about 30% less then we normally spend at other sushi restaurants. This place is an excellent find.
