The food was good. Which is the only reason why I'm giving the place three stars.
(a more accurate rating would probably be 2.5, but I can't seem to find a way to do half stars)
The service was horrible. We arrived around 6:15PM. Ordered appetizers right away. Appetizers didn't come until almost 7:00 p.m.... with no utensils, no individual plates... no dipping sauce for the appetizer order.
After waiting around several minutes for our waiter to bring these things... we eventually just went to get our own: plates, silverware, ketchup (the one at our table was empty), blue cheese and ranch for our wings...
I literally kept walking over to the kitchen to ask for whatever we needed because quite frankly, asking our waiter for anything was an exercise in patience and futility. At one point I had asked a "busboy" (forgive me, I don't know what we are supposed to call them these days... The workers that clean/clear the tables?) because the guy at the bar - next to the ice cream counter - started looking perturbed whenever I walked up.
... and I don't really feel that it was our waiter's fault. He seemed new, so we were very patient. He also seemed like he wasn't really sure what he was supposed to do as a waiter... I felt like they grabbed somebody from the kitchen because they were short-staffed and asked him to serve tables.
Doesn't make any sense making this kid feel miserable for the lack of service, and he was very kind... so of course we were very kind in return.
We actually tipped him extremely well. He just seemed so out of place we felt sorry for him!
But it just took such a long time for our meals to arrive (our actual meal orders did not arrive until well after 7:30PM) that we probably won't be returning.
It's a shame... That broiled skirt steak was the best I've had this side of Greek town. Maybe we'll give it another shot on another day... Or if anything, order takeout.
But that dining...
Read moreThe best of the best...creme de la creme...only one can be the best. This proud Greek restaurateur has preserved one of America's finest dining traditions, the affordable top quality family dining restaurant. Remember the Rascal House in Miami on Collins Ave.? Remember Stouffer's or Lawry's in downtown Chicago? I guess the only current comparable would be the legendary Lou Mitchell's. The menu is extensive and every dish a work of art. Soups and salads prepared to perfection not just filling a bowl but savoring savory gourmet recipes. Cream of chicken soup you could live on. Everything whether it is a traditional dinner item or sandwich or ice cream fountain creation is obviously made with love by people who proudly care. No COVID excuses here. Prices are fair, portions are hearty and quality is the best in the business. Situated unassuming in an outdoor mall you might miss the Continental but don't. If I still had my family this place would be a breakfast and dinner tradition for decades. Just pretend you are going to an average restaurant and expect the best, no matter what you order you won't be disappointed. Ten stars recommended without hesitation. The most under rated and unappreciated gem of a restaurant regardless of...
Read moreFlew in from out of town and wanted to grab a quick bite before meeting with family in burbs. I searched for restaurants I could eat at close to my destination. Online it shows Continental Restaurant opens at 7 AM, perfect. But after I’m dropped off, the sign on the window says: open at 8. It’s two years into the pandemic and at a time when restaurants need to be on top of their game, this establishment has dropped the ball in terms of presenting correct information to its potential customer base. Alas, I shrugged it it off and waited outside for the 50 mins. However 40 mins later, a woman who appeared to be owner/manager comes to door. I explain to her what my situation was and she shrugged her shoulders with a “sorry” and walked inside. As a partner in a restaurant myself (family owned fast casual pizzeria), I know how bad reviews can hurt business BUT I also would NEVER leave a customer sitting outside, especially when any inconvenience to them was due to me. Not even a “please come sit inside! Can I get you a coffee?” Nothing. As I finish writing this, it is now past 8 AM and no server has come to greet me at my table outside. Complete garbage. Take your...
