Sorrento's Italian Restaurant — Restaurant in Whitemarsh Township

My husband and I were out for our anniversary dinner. We wanted to go somewhere a little laid back. I have always heard raving reviews about this restaurant and I have been wanting to try it for a while. Well it was the most awful experience I’ve had at any restaurant. We originally made a reservation but we got there 20 minutes early, but the restaurant was half empty so we were immediately seated, I thought, wow this is great. We sat for a minute looking at the menu and then they came and dropped water at the table and ran before we could as for a soda, 10 minutes later they tossed bread (a toasted hoagie roll) on the edge of the table and walked away. At this point neither waitress had greeted us, or asked us if we wanted anything to drink other than water. After at least 20 minutes of the waitresses making no eye contact or checking in on us, taking any kind of order, I was loosing my patience. The couple that had come in right in front of us was enjoying their beverages and salads at this point, while we had not been acknowledged once. At the point the restaurant was not full, but a group came in after us, they were immediately seated, they got their drinks and the waitress was taking their order, at this point I was over the edge. Never in my life have I done this, but my husband and I got up and walked out. After at least 25 minutes of sitting there, menu of the table, we had eaten all of our bread at this point, starving, not being able to get anyone’s attention. When the waitress saw us walking out of the dining she asked us, with a tone, “where are you going, I was just coming to get you?” I told her we have been sitting here for 20 minutes and nobody has even taken our drink order, we’re leaving. Overall our experience was very poor. I normally do not like to do negative reviews but I felt this was warranted. We called at approx 7pm and were told there were no open tables but no wait so it would be quick. We arrived at approx 7:10pm and there was one couple waiting. I walked to the desk and Indicated two in my party. I was very abruptly told "wait in line, it won't be long". We waited in line for approx. 35 min while the restaurant and staff were in complete disarray trying to seat a party of 15 that had 7:30 reservations. The people obviously knew the staff as they were taking glasses from inside into the parking lot so they could start drinking their wine prior to sitting down. They were coming in and out behind the counter and out, it was chaos. The head waitress Suzanne I believe was even cursing which we overheard several times. Extremely unprofessional. During this time several patrons had to come to the desk to ask for service and for their checks because they were being ignored. The large party was finally seated around 8pm. We stood and stared at a two person table from around 7:20 till 8pm but for some reason we would not be seated until the large party was seated around 8:05pm. Total wait was approx 45min. After sitting down it took 10min to get bread and order. The food was just ok. I got veal sorrento and honestly it was swimming in sauce , not how it should be presented. We really wanted to like this place as it's very close to our new home. However if you are not a regular or family member expect to get treated like u aren't important. That might be somewhat forgivable if the food was spectacular but compared to places in the city sorrento's clearly is not...
