Tuesday, April 30, three days after my 46th birthday I ate Spread for the 3rd time. Pulling into the location I thought might be a good lease rate and a good reuse of the facility. There are also some other grades tenants and options and the same strip center, including Imperatore fine Italian restaurant in Blue Bell Pizza. Spread as a clean modern look and feel. There was neutral, upbeat, background music that was not too loud. The same staff members from the prior two times were present, both friendly enough and attentive. There is a feeling of simplicity which along with the “brick oven Bagels” seems to enhance the flavor. The bagels are excellent. I’ve had the rosemary, the everything and the sesame. Always get it toasted for that crisp side and soft inside. and have tried the scallion and the veggie cream cheese, both which were phenomenal. I was not in love with the egg sandwich. The eggs were great and abundant, but the bacon was fatty and not crisp. Just not my cup of tea, but for those of you who like fatty soft chewy bacon, this may be your holy place. There was only one other person there today at 8:30 AM, whereas yesterday there were 10 to 12 people in line around the same time. There are plenty of places to sit, though I walked outside and ate on the tailgate of my SUV because the weather is perfect. Later today, it’ll be 88° and sweating on the baseball field at Marlow (Oreland, Pa), but for the moment standing in front of Spread it is 60 degrees and amazing. From a cost perspective, I just paid less than seven dollars for a very tasty bagel with some very tasty cream cheese. I recommend Spread and am wondering if they would be interested in opening in Erdenheim,...
Read moreWhile this is a great, consistent, bagel - you should only visit on a weekday until they figure out mobile orders and walk ins and make enough product.
Weekend options for bagels are always limited.
Just today at 9am I was told that couldn’t order more than 2 bagels, loose, when I wanted 6 - because not enough had been made.
Regularly on weekends, varieties are unavailable.
The business needs to learn how to balance online orders with walk-in on weekends, especially and make more product available. Limiting walk-in orders weekend after weekend is unacceptable business practices and is never seen in traditional bagel shops like local competitors. Will be driving the extra distance from now on. Just not worth the frustration...
Read moreYour not getting a BETTER bagel in the area! Although, it's a Montreal style bagel, it's everything I miss back in NYC . Also as a Chef I appreciate the crust of the bagel in a wood fire oven. John does a amazing job cooking the bagels to perfection. The staff are all warm, friendly and welcoming. Also I'm a bit of a purist and never really liked anything but lox and cream cheese. But I ordered the Cure. I thought it was amazing. The brisket was so tender and the JALEPENO cream cheese was really good. The eggs were very fluffy. It was a big sandwich and well worth the $16. TRUST ME, GET...
